No Doubt that this city is college basketball heaven. I'm just thankful that we were able to hire (and hopefully keep) a top notch football coach to come here to such a crazy hoops town.

I believe Charlie Strong will make us just as crazy for both sports before too long. I'm already there.

I travel alot for business....

Nobody outside of this region and North Carolina give 2 sheeyats about college basketball...

Maybe first week of tourny....but thats it...

College football, on the other hand, is very popular.

I bet if you took a national poll, other than this area would have thier college sports listed

1) football
2) baseball
3) all others

I will assume Lexington isn't in the largest 56 markets or it would likely be at the top. At any rate, its good for a Ky. city to be there.

Spot on! What we take for granted around here is not the case in the rest of the country. I traveled a lot (both on court and off) in years past and was amazed at the lack of interest in collge BB in other areas. They can talk all they want about the great tradition of eastern BB but it does not translate into fan interest. Their main focus is on pro sports teams.

I was a bit surprised that Columbus made the list of top ten markets rather than Detroit, but haven't traveled that much in recent years. Dayton, OH is another matter. They are nuts about the sport - UD, UK and OSU NTM Miami and ND. There is a reason Dayton always hosts play-in games for the tourney. They love college hoops.

No pro sports = college town. Basketball two national championships...football, 0. Not a bad thing, just a fact.

This.

Which is why a team like St. Johns will never be big in NYC.

The same goes for UCLA not having humongous support, despite their 11 titles. USC football is big because LA doesn't have an NFL team.

We can probably thank both UofK and Indiana as well. With that said, i really don't think UofK fans really care about watching a South Carolina-Ole Miss game on ESPN like UofL fans would be watching a Syracuse-Georgetown game.

Wrong!! Thank ME for this; a few weeks ago my family participated in the Nielson ratings for a week. I watched a lot of basketball and not just UofL. I'm a fan of the game especially college; and I think there's a lot of people like me in Louisville due to the fact we have no pro teams, which is why Louisville is one of if not the best college sports town in the country.

Ole Miss and South Carolina will make your eyes bleed. Better comp would be Florida v. Vandy. Auburn v. Georgia would top Ole Miss and USC.

I watched Columbia and Princeton last Saturday then flipped over to VCU and somebody.
