Any thoughts (if true regarding those involved in their football program...hopefully it won't impact their team too much their seasons to come.)

I read one of the four is considered a star player. The problem is bigger if they were selling to teammates. We'll find out shortly who they are.

FORT WORTH, Texas ? Police say four Texas Christian University football players are among 17 students who have been arrested in a campus drug bust.

TCU Police Chief Steve McGee said the students arrested Wednesday were caught in an undercover operation selling marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy and prescription drugs.

He did not immediately identify those arrested but says their names will be released later in the day.

McGee says the six-month investigation was prompted by complaints from students, parents and others.

School chancellor Victor Boschini calls the students' actions "simply unacceptable." Officials say all 17 students have been expelled.

Seventeen TCU students, including four football players who are accused of selling marijuana to other players, have been arrested after a six-month investigation by Fort Worth and TCU police, university officials said Wednesday.
"All of those arrested are drug dealers," TCU Police Chief Steven McGee said at a morning news conference.
The four players arrested are linebacker Tanner Brock; defensive lineman D.J. Yendry; offensive tackle Tyler Horn; and cornerback Devin Johnson, according to documents released Wednesday morning.
Brock, who missed the 2011 season with an injury, was the team's leading tackler in the 13-0 2010 season that ended with a Rose Bowl victory.
Arrest warrant affidavits released Wednesday accuse Brock, Yendry and Horn of selling hydroponic marijuana to TCU students and football players from a house in the 3400 block of Brady Avenue in Fort Worth.
Coach Gary Patterson released a statement saying, in part: "There are days people want to be a head football coach, but today is not one of those days."
Last year, TCU was lauded in a "Sports Illustrated" article as the only top 25 team in the nation in 2010 with no players on its roster with criminal records.
And, according to the article, TCU and Oklahoma were the only two schools in the top 25 that performs criminal background checks on their recruits.
Some of the students were members of fraternities, but police said there was no indication that the fraternities themselves were involved.
Three students were arrested on campus early this morning, police said. The arrests were made calmly; no officers forced their way into dorms.
The drugs being sold, including in hand-to-hand transactions to undercover officers, included marijuana, cocaine, acid, ecstacy and prescription drugs, McGee said.
Fort Worth police said the investigation is ongoing and that more students could be arrested.
The others arrested were Austin Williams Carpenter, Bud Pollard Dillard, Cynthia Jaqueline Zambrano, Earl Patrick Burke, Eduardo Hernandez, Hunter Wallace McLaughlin, Jonathan Blake Jones, Katherine Ann Petrie, Matthew Iarossi Davis, Michael Gragg King, Peter Signavong, Richard Clay Putney, Scott Lee Anderson, Tayler Davis Cowdin and William Davis Jennings.
The investigation began after police received tips from parents and students, TCU Chancellor Victor J. Boschini Jr. said.
"Today's events have changed the life of everybody at TCU," Boschini said.
Earlier Wednesday, Boschini announced the arrests on TCU's website.
"Many current TCU students" were arrested early Wednesday in a drug sweep around campus, he wrote.
"TCU has never before experienced a magnitude of student arrests such as this," he said.
He said that the students were immediately "separated from TCU" and that they face immediate expulsion if they are found guilty.
Boschini wrote: "While this news is certainly shocking and disappointing, it is important to remember that TCU has clear expectations for its students: that they behave in an ethical manner, abide by campus policies and adhere to state and federal law.
"These students are charged with acting in a manner that is incompatible with TCU values and against the law. That is simply unacceptable and such reported behavior is not tolerated at this University

TCUh-oh

Brock was their leader on D and their leading tackler in his soph year. Will be a SR next year. After being hurt last year, he could have been a med RS deal to have 2 years left.

I never like to see kids make mistakes. And don't revile in it. But you don't trip and fall in to the rounds of a major police drug bust.

One has to think Patterson would deal with these implications with serious penalties, if/when their involvement/guilt is proven.

Just read some about it. It is all premature speculation about them being kicked, but seems to be about what is going to happen. Gotta love the blog era.

Some of the details are a bit damning. Didn't click on the link provided about the warrant, but read the cut and paste of it. "6 month long invesigation", "players making large drug deals to undercover agents", a key player joking that only "20 or so kids on TCUs roster could pass drug test", "further arrests pending". Already one key player and 3 total starters out of the 4 arrests, with potentially more students and players coming. That is sad stuff.

Maybe the old days were better, you know when players were given cars with a trunk full of drugs in them. Nowadays kids that don't want to work real jobs have to find illegitimate jobs at car dealerships or in the drug trade.ohwell But really, college kids and drugs isn't shocking. A drug bust that includes a bunch of kids on campus is.

Best of luck to these kids on learning from their mistakes. Repeatedly dealing drugs is a big one. Football and school have to take a back seat to family and legal issues now for these kids. Sad.

Got their pics here and Brocks arrest affidavit where he claims only 20 players on the roster would actually pass a drug test.

Patterson is erring on the side of caution. Not to start some debate, but nowadays w the internet, 24 hour news stations, Twitter, and blogs.....you eire of have to. Now some of the leaked info is damning, but these are teenage and 20 something year olds lives we are posting about here.

I don't have their back. Being involved in a drug dealing empire is way different than the college kid having one too many and peeing in an alley only to get a ticket from a bicycle cop.

Just interesting to me how swiftly many coaches and staffs deal w these things as compared to the past. It is what it is though. Don't deal drugs kids.

This is not Patterson's doing. Per the TCU pres, all students involved have been expelled. I suppose if proven innocent, the school could permit them to re-enroll, but I highly doubt any of the 17 kids will ever set foot in a TCU classroom again.

I'd like to see the results of those tests. I'd imagine we'd find plenty other substances.

This is too funny.

Mr SEC

It happened on the campus of the Big 12's shiny, new toy. It happened at the school that's supposed to be the perfect replacement - the perfect upgrade! - to Texas A&M.

Even if they only had 20 players that could play, they would be more competitive than the aggs :)

Wow. Bitterness. Exaggerating. And best of all, gloating over some kids getting arrested at TCU.

Stay classy.....or just go to the SEC and cover yourself in mud while cheering for Bama and Florida wins and blaming Texas for your problems.

Stay classy? You were banned from a Texas site. Mr. SEC said it and sometimes the truth hurts. I find it interesting that the Big 12 had to pay for one university to get in and the other has drug dealers on their football team.

What does my old handle getting banned on ob because a sooner complained have to do with your post? I see you trying to change the subject here. I guess that is one tact, or you could admit you were wrong for your post laughing at kids getting arrested.

Big topic here. I tried marijuana in college (as a player) and I guess I'm one of the few people that's tried it and didn't like it. However, from what I can tell, kids getting drunk is more of a problem for society than smoking weed. Alcohol is also more harmful to the body than marijuana. Everyone falls in line with whatever the government tells them is good or bad. And on a personal level I knew a handful of kids at the small high school I went to that died because they were drinking it up and of course driving. I haven't "personally" observed anyone I know that's killed themselves with marijuana. I believe marijuana should be legal and looked at no differently than drinking. The real danger kids have is getting marijuana laced with something else, because our all knowing government decided to push marijuana to the illegal underground.

I'm sure many will disagree. This is my simple opinion.

Fair enough.

I guess I have to jump in. I think both are harmful to the body when abused. If you are comparing an alcoholic to the occasional pot smoker, then you could easily come to your conclusion. But I happen to know a few people from HS and college who became potheads, and flunked out as a result. And still have issues with being lazy and now are having health issues before they hit 30. So marijuana is dangerous. I have no real care one way or the other if the government was to legalize it, but I certainly agree with the argument for it. Making money by taxing it, regulating it, etc. And in 40 years driving while stoned laws may go threw the roof when some angry mom starts a club against smoking.

My stance is any drug is dangerous when abused. Simple as that. No real point in arguing about how one damages your lungs and brain and heart and the other damages your liver and heart and CNS.

I guess you missed the part about cocaine, 'scripts, [fake] acid, and the like...

There's also a slight difference between smoking a little weed, and selling felony amounts to undercover cops.

Once again it's people with a lot to lose doing stupid shit, and risking their entire futures.... Over what? A little thrill of being a drug dealer? These kids didn't have to sell drugs. Most of them came from money, and had nothing to gain, but everything to lose. They're idiots.

This.

Smoking a joint, eating a twinkie, then going to bed is one thing. (think suspended from some games)

Being at the heart of a coordinated, 6 month sting operation is totally different.

I think he was just giving an unrelated take on how he feels about weed in general.

He said he'd rather kids smoke than drink. He didn't say he wants them to start slinging and create an empire.

There's also a slight difference between smoking a little weed, and selling felony amounts to undercover cops.

But, why is there a difference? If it's no big deal to smoke a little weed, then it should be no big deal to sell tons of it to whomever. If its a stupid law, then its a stupid law, no matter the quantity.

We could get into a philosophical debate on the subject, but in the end, what good would it do? I'm obviously not going to change your (or anyone else's) opinion, just like you won't change mine. I see a different side of it than you (and most people) do. I deal with the fallout and the problems. I've attempted have rational discussions on this issue, countless times in the past with countless people, on countless forums. It always ends the same.

You are free to believe what you like. Arguing what you believe to be the benefits of legalization with me is inane. Not because I refuse to change my mind, or even because I've come to my own belief for my own reasons, but because I don't make the laws. I make my living enforcing them. If you feel strongly about it, write your representative a letter.

I hope you are being clever here, playing on the "everyone does it/getting busted 20 times for cheating is the same as getting caught once".

Stupid law or not, it is the law. Feel free to go break it. And while you are at it, call the cops. It would at the very least impact your posting here, no OB in jail. Please, pretty please carry this dense attitude from the messageboard in to your daily life. Success probably won't follow.

Oh, I understand your perspective... you have a job to do, and you have discretion for small amounts, but not for felony amounts. I get that. Just seems to me, from a philosophical perspective, that if one considers smoking weed not to be a big deal, then dealing it shouldn't be either.
