Wonder whats going on? It seems like the ones who didn't come maybe didn't want to play for Texas I guess, having car trouble is not a good excuse, seems like you only get one shot with this to play for Texas, why wouldn't ya get a damn ride, I can see more dick teasing on the way...I would offer and if they did not accept then I would grab b someone else that would have his heart to play for Texas..sometimes having heart is better than than the the other part...

"having car trouble is not a good excuse"

Yes it is, it happens to people all the time.

"I would offer and if they did not accept then I would grab b someone else that would have his heart to play for Texas..sometimes having heart is better than than the the other part..."

What? You are way over the top. So you're saying to hell with kids that want to think about where they spend their future.

FBH- They are kids. texas just signed a stud class. It's a big decision in their lives. I love players like Raulerson buy just because they didn't commit on the spot doesn't mean their heart is not with Texas.

Give these 16 & 17 year old kids a little time before we start offering other players.

I think in the past, they've offered kids that they shouldn't have. Mack and staff are offering better players and not getting the slam dunks early.

here are a few comments from JR day

We'll be just fine. Several of these guys will pull the trigger soon. And also keep in mind that we're only offering our very top guys at this point. OU has 40 offers out right now with no verbals and A&M has 35 offers out.

I am hoping this is it......because the alternative is pretty scary.

I agree with Jagged Horn. I like this change in recruiting. I felt in the past we offered too many kids too early, and then they had complacent senior years. Then they showed up on campus soft, and that got compounded by a soft previous staff. This staff is hungry, they get after their asses, and our current class with the class of sophomores to be is great. I am totally fine with only offering our top guys and waiting it out for a while.

Remember this when it comes to offering a kid...he might just accept. Don't throw out offers unless you really want them to be here.

Liking our chances soon with RSJ, Oliver, Samples and Hicks and then later James and Smythe. 10 offers this weekend and all to top tier players.

Naashon Hughes, ATH, Harker Heights - Attended but was not offered. Hughes still has UT at the top of his list, but Texas plans to be very thorough in its evaluations of defensive prospects.

Darius James, OL, Harker Heights - Attended and was offered, but did not commit. He continues to list UT high on his list.

Justin Manning, DT, Dallas Kimball - Attended and was offered, but did not commit. Spent quite a bit of time with Bo Davis. Still plans to visit A&M and OU.

Jake Oliver, WR, Dallas Jesuit - Attended and was offered, but did not commit. Oliver has not commented, but a couple people we talked to feel Texas is the team to beat and a commitment in the near future may not be out of the question.

Kyle Hicks, RB, Arlington Marin - Attended and was offered, but did not commit. People thought Hicks would jump at an offer, and while he came close, he walked away uncommitted.

Jake Raulerson, OL/DL, Celina - Had previously committed. Raulerson enjoyed his visit and continues to be a valuable component in UT's recruiting efforts. He'll be back in Austin on February 25.

I would like to see the NCAA step in and change recruiting while they are seniors only. I think we have set a bad precedent from this early recruiting. We were one of the first to do it, and looking back at the 08 09 and 10 class, we clearly made mistakes early. This process should not be this long. It should start after their first senior high school game and they should set the commit date 2 weeks after the NC game. Limit the trips to only 3 official and 5 out of their pocket visits. Street agents should be banned and if you have any dealings with them, 1 year bowl ban and loss of 3 scholarships.

Sounds like they offered quite a few, but none of these have accepted yet (minus the one already accepted prior to Jr day). I have no doubt Texas will snag in quite a few of the ones they want.

Is it normal for Texas to invite someone they think won't show (Ward and White)?

With that many kids, there are going to be no shows. I am not worried. I think some kids will look and see that we should have a solid junior, sophomore class their first year so they could red-shirt. But that might also scare some away. I still think this is way too early to start this process.

We've offered 11 so far with 1 verbal. The commits should start to fall this week. In comparison, OU has offered 40 per Rivals and hasn't had a commit yet. It's very early.

Yep. I have no doubt that come February 2013, both teams will somehow have found kids they want.

2010: worst season in a gazillion years and we get the second best class in the nation. There is no reason to worry about this year. The process has been altered a little, but we'll be more than OK.

You can see mommy's purse in the background on the bench. That has to be embarrassing when you are taking football photos of yourself.

In other words we only gave out a few offers compared to other schools, and I like this strategy better.

I'm hoping it didn't come off as I was making fun of Texas' approach. Or the lack of recruits that verballed on Junior Day. Just making a mental note.

Update**

More quotes from QB Tyrone Swoopes (HornsNation):

"As soon as we got out the car, we were walking out of the parking garage," Swoopes said, "and my little brother looks up at the stadium and was like, 'Oh my gosh, I want to go to Texas!' "

"I had already liked them (Texas) a lot from the first time I went down there," he said. "I don't think I could like them any more than I already did. They really want me, and it would be a good opportunity if I did go there."

"He (Mack Brown) just told me that he wanted me pretty bad to go down there," Swoopes said. "They need a quarterback, and he thinks I can help make something big down there with the guys they're getting next year and could get in my class."

"Coach Harsin said I'm going to be compared to Vince Young and Colt McCoy and Cam Newton and all them, but he won't expect any of that from me," Swoopes said. "He'll expect me to be Tyrone Swoopes, that's all."

"I don't really know (about a timeline for a decision), honestly. I don't know," he said. "I'm going to talk to my parents about everything the next couple days. I guess we'll see."

A Swoopes/RSJ combo would be pretty lethal.

Isn't his brother J. McFarland? He's been rumored to be an OU lean.

Darn.

I was wanting him out of all the DTs. Looked like a UT/OU battle. Looks like OU might be in lead, if not elsewhere.

I think we get A'Shawn Robinson, but he very well could be OL. With Manning looking not so good and Golden going to ATM, it looks like it will be Vincent Taylor. He would be next on the list. And he is a good one. Good thing we got a large DT haul this year, as it isn't looking so good for next year. Although only taking one and him being Manning, Taylor, or a kid from Louisiana is not bad at all.

Yeah, we don't have an SR DTs this year and just took 4 in the last class. I would think we would take 1 in this class.

Totally agree with you about "street agents", however, the NCAA most likely sees this as a benefit for the player(for the prospects fortunate enough to earn an invitation to a junior day). Recruiting is a give and take experience, and junior days provide a chance for the players to observe a program from the inside.

Yes, Texas "were one of the first to do it" for hosting Junior Day sunday. We would routinely collect committments from junior days. But believe Mack and Texas will change their ways in the future. In a way, we used to target large numbers, taking all visitors and turning the event into more of a showcase than a recruiting experience. Think Mack's approach will now focus on smaller numbers, players they really want to offer scholarships..We will become more selective in the future. This is Good. Junior days will(and should) become more specialized.

Other changes must be instituted -- such as a date earlier than Sept 1 to start official visits, a proposal that "is" under review by the NCAA
