Stat line for Erving Walker yesterday

0 like 0 dislike
31 points, 5 assists, 0 turnovers.

But hey, he sucks and is a liability to the team. frown

Opinions of him certainly vary on this board. The reality is, no matter what you think of him, we are going to struggle at PG next year. Walker has a good handle, can penetrate the lane, and gets guys shots.

No one else on our current roster does this effectively. I have no idea who Donovan will start next year at PG.

He killed it. I just read an article at Alligator Army that basically said the Gators will go as Walker goes. When he plays well, we have elite eight potential. When he is forcing shots and driving without looking for a pass, we are a good first round upset candidate.

And that BBB, is why he frustrates people so much. He has games like he has the other night and then he has games we're he's driving into the lane with his head cut off and making careless turnovers while jacking shots from 30 ft. There's rarely anything in between with him. Very frustrating player to watch.

I disagree we are going to struggle. This is who will start.

As has been stated ad nausea, he is a 2 playing the 1....a 5'8" 2 at that. You get moments at critical times that he does not act like the distributor he should be. That attitude is going to get you in trouble, particularly in clutch situations...as it has frequently throughout his career.

That kid's cross over dribble is deadly. Big time ankle breaking potential.

JetSki, I apologize. Hill is a '13 entry. I had forgotten. Wilbekin and Ogbueze are going to have to run the point. We might see Boynton or perhaps even Beal play some there next year. Hill committed last year and in my brain it was stuck that he was '12 entry.

Yep, and he still does both. Sometimes in the same game, like he did in the Bama game.

Florida is best when Walker is dishing assists. If his shot is on like it was last night, then it is pure gravy.

Ghost is a guy that once tried to convince everyone Walker was going to win a lot of postseason awards. But then, Ghost probably had a lot to drink that night too.

Eek

Have you watched Scottie Wilbekin run the offense at all this year? He's rather adept at it, to say the least. Boynton can also handle the ball and run the offense, and Braxton Ogbueze is a promising 4-star PG Billy has coming in. PG play is the least of our problems.

He won't be able to run the point from the NBA.

Yes, Boynton will probably see some time at PG. But I disagree on Wilbekin. He's a good player, especially on defense, but he's not able to dribble out of (and away from) trouble like most good PGs. He also doesn't handle the press well. Wilbekin is most definitely a big step down if he takes over Walker's starting role. Then again, he's only 18 and Billy can probably work with him over the offseason.

I can't imagine why he would stay. Beal is a probable lotto pick. But some of the people that cover the team and speak with him personally insist he is staying and has things he wants to work on and achieve. So, I don't know what to think, to be honest.

No kidding....how about the block pinning the ball against the glass!? The kid is a distributor first, though.

We will be fine at PG next year and like it was mentioned above Kasey Hill comes in the 2013 class and that kid is big time.

If he and Pat stay, we're preseason top 5 and national title favorites.

^^Have to get Bennett or Noel for that to happen. Otherwise, it is just more of the same from this year.

Noel or Bennett would mean preseason top 3. As it stands, we were preseason No. 7 this year, and losing only Erv, with everything else remaining the same, and others losing more would push us up further.

I noticed Beal playing the point a bit as of late. I think Billy is going to experiment between Beal, Boynton and Scotty to see who takes the job next year

Stop getting me excited about Beal coming back, MJ. That would make my year...

Hey Ghost, what was Walker's stat line last Saturday?

Not good. I like Walker and have nothing against the guy. Was a good player for us, but just not a consistent player and not a true PG.

I have also heard that Beal is long gone.

Unfortunately, Wilbekin got extended minutes and his stat line was worse than Walker's. Despite what you may think of Erv, I maintain that we are in trouble next year at PG w/o him.

Walker has a huge heart, but it's lodged in half a body.

I thought Beal was here a min. 2 years... Now he is gone? Is this because of our team's lack of success?

It makes no sense for him to stay. I have thought that since the first time I saw him play. Then some of the folks that talk to him regularly say he plans on staying. It seems this has changed though in the last 2 weeks....I don't know the cause, just that they are getting the sense he is bolting. Perhaps because he is one of the few that actually understands the game on this team and goes 100% all the time. It has to be frustrating. I remember J Will going off on his team mates that couldn't keep up. For guys at that level, it is not easy and has to wear on you.

And that's it, right there. Whatever limitations Walker has, he's all we got. And if the kid would just play with his head in the game all the time then we'd be fine. The thing you learn to love about the Percy Harvins of the world isn't their athletic ability which is tremendous. It's his competitive fire. The guy would do anything to win.

That makes sense Tampa but I hate to hear it. Beal is one of the few bright spots on the team and I was really hoping that he "bought in".

Billy is challenging Beal to be the leader on the court. Among other things, that means calling out the players that tend to play with their head up their arse, from time to time.

You hit the nail on the head, Tampa.

Beal = 1 year player.
Young = 4 year player.
