Jeremy Lin does it again

Linsanity is still going strong. Today on national tv against the defending champs with all of NY's celebrities watching, Jeremy Lin turns in another great performance. He is the only other NBA player besides Kevin Durant that I keep my eye on at all times.

Lin scored 28 points on 11 of 20 shooting, had 14 assists, & 5 steals to lead the Knicks to a 104-97 win over defending champ Dallas. He did have 7 to's, so yes, he is still a work in progress. But he is so smart, and has such a great work ethic that he will work on his weakness'.

IMO the Lin sensation is that as a Chinese American, is that he has his entire people cheering him on. Yes there was Yao Ming but his career was cut short by injuries. You watch Knick games on tv and you see Chinese Americans holding posters saying things like Linsanity. It doesn't matter if the Knicks are at home or on the road. They are in the stands cheering him on wildly. They interviewed Yao Ming and he said in China they are watching all his games, keeping track on his stats. He said that everyone in China that keeps up with the NBA is going crazy at what he does. It's also that way in Taiwan where his ancestry is. His grandmother is being mobbed everywhere she goes, just because she is his grandmother. Today Lin asked people there to respect her privacy. The NBA has become an international game. Probably every NBA team has at least one player from another country. For example, my hometown San Antonio Spurs' three most important players during their championship run were all foreign born players. Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, & Tony Parker are all from somewhere else. Any time a foreign born player either leads or plays an important part in helping his team win the NBA title, their homeland goes crazy. I remember that all of Germany went wild when Dirk Nowitzki lead Dallas to the title last year.

To top it all of Jeremy Lin has a real humility. It's not faked, it's real. He was not a #1 pick. He was not wanted in college. Even Harvard where he went to school didn't think he was good enough to play hoops. He got cut twice. The Knicks picked him up but the went to the D League twice. The D League is the NBA version of the minor leagues. Finally there he is sitting at the end of the bench. At the start of the season the Knicks had high hopes. Their season was turning into a disaster. Out of desperation they turn to Jeremy Lin. And everything else is history, at least so far. This is for all the players like Jeremy Lin who had talent like him but never got the chance. Once he finally got a real chance which was probably his last chance, well, we all know the rest. And like I said he is from Harvard. Harvard leads America in most things. Most US Presidents graduated from there, so many leaders in industry, commerce, politics, etc. are from there. But sports is another matter entirely. I don't think the Ivy League has awarded athletic scholarships in over 60 years. Lin is the first Harvard player in the NBA in 65 years.

I consider all this and how can I not be cheering him on? I very rarely pull for NY teams, but I am for Jeremy Lin. How can this not be considered a great story?
