Howie,Jeff,Matt, Mods?? Question?

I remember back in the 60's and 70's we (UofL) were known as the
"Fighting Cardinals" why did the program drop "Fight" from our slogan?
Was it a victim of "PC" crap!?! Well it's time to bring it back because our
guys fight and play to the end!! Any chance the "powers that be" could bring
the old signature slogan back? By the way I notice Notre Dame still has the
word "Fight" in their slogan so it can't be a "PC" problem.

Not a PC issue as far as I can tell. Fightin' was typically a football term, but I am not sure when it was dropped.

It was never an official moniker, but I also know a lot of that is left up to the PA guys. Perhaps that was just something Tong liked to say?

It changed after the south Carolina game in the 80's when a big fight erupted, so to answer your question yes it's a PC thing. I believe Pervis even went into the crowd it was an ugly finish through technicals and some heroics we managed to come back and win.

Craig Hawley half court shot to tie the game and send it in over time. I watched it on TV and couldn't believe what I had just witnessed. I still can't stand S.Carolina.

Most bizarre "comeback" and win in my memory for the Cards. After sending it into OT and winning in that fashion, I was VERY concerned about the Cards getting out of that arena. Losing the game after a nice lead and a brawl in your own arena, USC fans HAD to be extremely hostile about the outcome.

How many people remember the old USC "Marquette" type jerseys that hung out that said "Game" on the front side and "Cocks" accross the backside? Talk about a poor fashion statement.

Maybe uk could adapt this, with jerseys that say, "A-Holes". I don't think it matters if it's on the front or back.

The "fighting" part is kinda high schoolish.
