I tend to agree. A win would be special, but the 'noles have proven they play at the same level as Duke quite regularly.

I can see your point, but the flip side is a win would finish the best "Tobacco Road" series in our young ACC history.

I like the idea of an all out effort followed supported by an insane atmosphere, finished with a business like handshake. hahaha

We as fans should just quietly shakes haneds with each other after the game and walk out with "Hamilton stares" on our faces hahahaha

I agree with not storming the court, but it would still be an upset. The teams are too close to storm the court though.

I think we should rush the court before the game. That will make a statement.

I agree we shouldn't. However I don't think our student fan base knows how not to rush when we beat a top 5 team. Most of them are sheep following the hype of excitement for the night, not people who understand we're a different fsu team than the early-mid 2000s. I just think it would say A LOT more to the college basketball world and especially Duke if we don't rush, like "we know we're better than you and don't need to act as if we aren't" and not, "we're better than you but we don't really believe it."

Lets just win first.

I do agree that we shouldn't rush the court. Our goal at this point is to win the ACC, not beat Duke. If this was the final game and it sealed us winning the ACC, then by all means yes. But we still have three more games, and quite frankly I could see rushing the court having a slightly negative impact on our play against Miami. It reinforces the idea that "mission was accomplished."

All that said, there is no way our student body--who still does the wave when we are on offense in close football games--isn't going to rush should we win.

Seriously we beat Duke ALL the time, it's really not that big a shock anymore. Act like you've been there before. Please don't storm the court.

With that being said, NO WAY students control themselves, they will no doubt rush court if we win.

Must agree 100%... unfortunately that goes for both parts (though, I GUESS we can make an excuse of Sweeping Duke, or actually sweeping ALL of the ACC teams from North Carolina). Still, we should not rush the court... we should celebrate like we expected to win.

Didn't BC rush the court when they beat us? We are the team that people want to rush the court if they beat us. We are past rushing it ourself imo.

What difference does it make?

Will we get a lower seed in the ACC tourny?

Will we forfit the game?

Maybe we will not make the NCAA tourny because we rushed the floor!

This is silly! If the fans that show up and are loud, want to rush the floor, By all means go ahead!

I will add that no one needs to be hurt by this! But by all means rush if you want to. It makes very little difference, except on a few message boards.

I'm a student. I didn't for UNC and don't intend to now. By the way, I did rush several times in the early to mid 2000s.

As I said earlier in the post, yes I do think rushing the court will have a slight, albeit possibly subconscious, effect on our players mentality going into the Miami game, as it reinforces the idea that our mission has already been accomplished.

If our coaches are worth half a damn then I'm pretty sure our players are smart enough to know that there are still 3 very important games left after Duke (then obviously also followed by 2 very important tourneys)...

I would have to disagree here.

In fact, I tend to think that is pretty weak.
We have a lot of upper classmen on this team that know and understand that the future is now upon them. That they have a chance to do what they came here to do. Win. Win the ACC, and win in the NCAA's.

At least I hope they do. I know the coaches have to be tired of telling them this at this point!

IF we win I don't believe fans should rush the court. You know it ain't no big deal to beat Duke anymore. But then I can't be there. So, if we win & if fans rush the court I say to them, "be careful not to run over any of the Duke players, coaches, or officials." Oh yeah, and have a good time.

It's hard to be taken seriously when you rush the court after beating a team that you a
already beat on the road this year.

If we win, I wish we wouldn't, but I know it will happen.

It's fine that we disagree, I'm just dealing in the realities of human nature, especially 20 something year-olds. And like I said, it may not even be a conscious thing. People say the right things all the time and then when push comes to shove, the truth rises up.

I've been on the side of the spectrum where a team experiences a thrilling victory and celebration. Two days later, no matter how good the coaches are, the guys are still talking about "hey did you see me do this?", or "how about that kid who did such and such?" Two days later they are still watching highlights of the game on tv and having kids on campus tell them how awesome they are. I'm not saying any of these things are bad, I'm simply stating that the psychological makeup of humans is complex and subtle events can make a big difference.

Maybe the Tucker Center admin can hire some of Leon County's finest to dress in riot gear, brandish pepper spray & batons, and have a few German shepherds on-hand for crowd control.

/sarcasm

I do agree that I wish the fans would not do this. But, in the event of a win, they almost assuredly will.

To think that rushing the court after beating Duke would have a negative affect on future games is ridiculous. By that line of thinking, maybe we shouldn't cheer after made baskets or steals so the players don't think their work for the game is done. Maybe one could argue that seeing the fans rush the court would positively reinforce with the playes what winning means to the fans and the players would consciously and subconsciously want to recreate that feeling with more wins.

FSu already has a bad name when it comes to rushing the court. ESPN makes fun of us everytime we do it. Rushing the court is for something specials but every damn fanbase does it now when ever they beat a higher ranked than them. It has taken away from what it really means and I feel like NO team ranked should ever rush the floor unless it is the number 1 team they beat or it is a miracle buzzer beater. Court rushes were reserved for monumental upsets and winning championships. Not for just beating ranked teams.

@ GE

I am afraid that will happen no matter if we rush the court or not.

You are right, in so far that it is human nature, but that has nothing to do with if the fans rush the court!

I actually agree with you 100%, even though it has nothing to do with my post. And I agree with your assessment of when it should be appropriate and doing it all the time diminishes its meaning.

I'd wager that a lot do those students know exactly where we are as a program. Many of them have been at FSU during what is becoming the greatest period of hoops in our history. They are experiencing something special and are treating it that way. As opposed to a lot of the people here that can only focus on the negative.

I love the students non pretentious, unbridled excitement. It's refreshing from a fan base that is generally disinterested or worse when it comes to hoops.

We rushed the court against UNC this year. We won the next two games and one was at Duke. There didn't seem to be an effect after that court-storming.

Valid point. To play devil's advocate, a few differences:

--the next game after UNC was at home, with some home crowd energy to get the guys pumped up easier (I'm still not sure there wasn't a mental letdown, however).

--The 2nd game being @Duke actually worked in our favor, as this team is always 'up' for Duke.

--That was early in the acc schedule, when competitive juices were at their peak. This upcoming UM turnaround is late in the year when guys physical and mental batteries are suffering from more wear and tear, and the recharging process is not quite as fast.

I don't know what's going to happen. I hope we can peak for all of these 4 games and reach the EquineTale Holy Grail. But I think GE has a very valid point about human nature and how it typically affects college students.

Jwill, are you insinuating that our crowd is going to leave early because we are going to blowout Dook the same way we did UNC and that there won't be enough fans left to rush the court? I don't think this would be the case because most of our fans will stay until the end anyway.

So true . . . no need to rush the court to antagonize the Dookies when coach will call a timeout 10 seconds before the game ends to let them escape.

If I were Leonard and it was over with about 30 seconds to go, I'd take the mic and ask the students to refrain. That would stop it. No need to do that anymore.

I'd say about 80% of the students at that game will be attending no more than their third game this season. If they were truly engaged with the team this entire basketball season, they probably wouldn't rush the court should we win.

They will most certainly rush the court if we win. It's no biggie to me, I just hope no one gets hurt. I'm just hoping that next season we see more students for the early games.
