Is this the biggest week in fsu basketball history?

0 like 0 dislike
Has there really ever been a more buzzed about and more crucial week of games ever in fsu history? I hope Hamilton is telling his seniors that they have within grasp the opportunity to build exactly what they set out to do here at fsu! All they need to do is WIN!

I like your thinking but to answer your question the week of our Final Four trip back in the 60s was a bigger week.

It amazes me how much people get caught up in the moment.

Just in recent memory, I'd consider last year's 1st and 2nd round wins, and the almost win in the sweet 16 as a bigger week. If your question was biggest regular season week, I would see it is for the last 20 years. Two wins this week and I think we are a strong 4, maybe even a 3 if other games go the way we need them to

1972

26 team tournament back then, uneven brackets, 6 first round byes, the other twenty play to get down to ten who join the bye teams in the sweet sixteen, i.e. the top 6 teams begin tournament play in the sweet 16.

We did not have a first round bye, beat Eatern Kentucky by two, I believe, 83-81, in the closest game we had on the way to the final. Then beat Minnesota [Big Ten champ], Kentucky [SEC champ, Adolph Rupps last game], and then North Carolina [ACC champ] in the Final Four semifinal game. Lost to UCLA by five in the championship game, which was played in LA by the way. It was UCLA's closest win in the final over their 11 year run of championships.

That still stands as the best run of FSU basketball and the most noteworthy, but it's nice to have games like Thursday that cause us to think about it. Good stuff.

Biggest regular season week since '93 for sure. Last week of February in '93, we were ranked #6 in the country with games that week against #9 Duke and #3 UNC. Let's hope this week goes better than that one did.

How about the week of January 14th through January 21st of this year? We started that week 1-1 in the ACC.

Not the biggest in our history, but definitely a huge/defining week. If we win both games this week (Duke, @ Miami) then we will likely only need to winone of our last two games to win the ACC regular season and wrap up the #1 seed in the ACC tourney. That would be huge because we wouldn't have to beat both Duke and UNC in the ACC tourney.

1991 when FSU went into the Dean Dome and beat UNC in their first ACC season. That was the now infamous Sam Cassell quote about the UNC fans being a "wine and cheese crowd" laugh

Totally agree. The above was bigger and in the regular season. Still agree with the OP though, considering that was almost 20 years ago. Things will get crazy if we can beat Duke!

I think this is huge because we are to many no more than a mediocre team and if we pull off 2 wins this week it likely proels us very near if not within the top 10 which is something we have not done since the days of sura cassell and ward! So to me this is one of the biggest weeks in fsu basketball especially in recent memory!

Thursday night game at home against Louisville. We were #7 and I think sitting at 19-2. Electric atmosphere.

Without a doubt. Biggest game in Tally. Success came easy in 91-93, most thought it would be a semi-regular thing. 20 years later.....we realize how precious it is. MUST win game - gotta love the stakes.

Having been a student at that time, this is the most exciting season we've had since the days of Ron King, Otto Petty, and the rest of the guys.

This....the early 70's
Still its going to be only one game of what...6 towards the ACC prize. So close but yet so far away. The odds are stacked against us to win the title so we'll have to take it from the Troads who will fight us tooth and nail.
