Dieng with confidence!

0 like 0 dislike
Lost in the shuffle of all the action Saturday... anybody else notice late in the game, maybe at the 3-4 minute mark Dieng catch the ball against the zone at the foul line, turn, and immediately cut it loose and knock it down?

I really liked seeing that. There were alot of things about Saturday's game to look at but this was one subtle play that could be something to build on for him.

That was nice but, for whatever the reason, he's not the same player that we saw up until the last few weeks. Something's off.

WVU and Syr have tough bigs. They gave him a challenge and offensively he didn't answer the bell. Maybe just a slump?

He has blocked 9 shots in his last two games. 8 pts & 8 rebs vs DePaul is not so bad.

Maybe he's sitting on a big game Thursday?

This offense is perimeter oriented and the only time Dieng and Chane touch the ball are on offensive rebounds.

It was nice to see.I think the big guy's confidence took a shot in the gut against Syracuse.Might've been something he's not used to.He'll overcome it like he's overcome other obstacles.

It was good to see Dieng take that shot without hesitation. It was a bit off but still fell from the back of the iron and through the net and that's all that matters.

I don't think we'll see him freeze again if he gets put in the same position as in the Syracuse game.

In RP's press conference after the game he mentioned that shot. He said he was proud of him for taking the shot. If you remember he passed on a similar shot late in the Syracuse game and threw the ball away. He also said he took Blackshear out early in the 2nd half for not taking an open shot. I'm not sure I'm recalling this exactly right but I think he said he told Wayne that if you want to play at Louisville you take that shot.

I did notice Dieng turn and shoot the ball without any hesitation late in the game. I remember hearing from one of the coaches that he makes that shot pretty consistenly in practice. Nice to see him shoot that shot with confidence.

Wayne did in fact pass up an open shot and drove to the basket and turned it over. With more practice time he will get better and more in the flow of the game. Even now I think having him to let Kyle get some rest is really important and at DePaul Kyle had fresh legs and it showed.

Now that we've got extra sets, the two man game is still a missing piece to this offense imo.I've said it before and I'll say it now...there seems to be a disconnect between the guards and the big guys on the in-out-in game.I do think it's a road that runs both ways.

The new sets do let Smith's, Kuric, Blackshear get the ball on the wings and in better scoring position than the high Siva pick n roll, or the back pick lob we seem to always run.
