Why Dabo is a joke.....serious post no juvenile nit picking

0 like 0 dislike
Someone saw Larry Fedora, UNCs new coach jumping up and down with UNC recruits and thought maybe Dabos twin....Not even close....look at Fedora's history....He was part of Mike Gundy's staff at Okla St. He actually knows Xs and Os as a coach should. he isn't only a recruiter. I actually have followed him a bit and think he is legit where Dabo will never be.

Clemson fans don't understand that most of us think he is a joke based on fact not just because we hate clemson....Take all the great coaches in CFB today...Saban-defense, Spurrier-Offense, Chip Kelly - Offense, Bob Stoops-Defense..

They all have a specialty so they have something to bring to the table in tough situations or throughout the game. This comes at a cost...they work for years as assistants taking lessons from other more experienced coaches and get better at their craft. They learn to handle winning and losing over the years, they experience ups and downs and learn to handle an interview, etc.

What is Dabo known for...recruiting...what does that do for you when you need a head coach to turn to in the middle of the 4th qtr in a big game....nothing.

Clemson fans dont seem to understand, Dabos are found in every big program, they are called recruiting coordinators, not head coaches, and they make 225K yr not 2 Mil yr, they are not the face of the program and are not calling the shots on 4th and 2 in the 4th qtr.

Dabo is a joke in my book not because he has a silly name, he told the nation he slept in the same bed as his mother for 3 yrs, he is very goofy on camera, etc, etc

Dabo is a joke in my book because he has no experience in coaching... wide reciever coach to head coach due to AD knowing half the recruiting class would leave if he wasn't retained does not count.

Ok in everyday terms...you have 3 years as a salesman in SC and the whole sales team likes you including some interns at the company that could be stars, the National Director of Sales gets fired and the CEO comes to you in little ole SC to run the entire sales force mainly so these interns don't go to rival companies across the south east ....are you really prepared, could you succeed, maybe, would you most likely fall on your face many times, yes, will people laugh at you....yes, could you have ruined your shot at any other serious leadership positions down the road because you were put in a position you weren't ready for,YES. Were you ever the best choice or just a pawn in the companies eye? Pawn, one that won a few accts and now they have to keep you to save face at the expense of the company!

Part of being a good coach is hiring good assistants. As long as he does that, fans will be fine with him.
One thing I notice, Dabo doesn't train assistants like SOS, Stoops or Saban. He hires coaches that were already trained by men like them. Kind of like Auburn coach.

Dabo is not exactly a nickname that makes one think of greatness. His real name is William Christopher and he should stick to that.

Might be true if there was any evidence he hires good assistants. He fired his first 2 coordinators. The 3rd (Morris) was figured out by the Georgia Tech game on (losing 4 of their last 6). The 4th, Venables, had 9 four star starters yet, still couldn't coach his players to being a Top 50 defense.

Just because you pay somebody alot of money doesn't make them a good asst. Doesn't make them a good Head Coach either

Just saying he seems to be hiring assistants with more experience than himself. It's a crap conference but he won it. And it wasn't with his coaching ability.

As much as I hate Dabo- he did seem to recognize this and brought in some (allegedly) heavy hitting coordinators. It's a weird situation up there. Seriously, what does Dabo do on the sidelines during the games? Chew gum and write notes to himself is all I can see.

I don't think it'll work, and it will be the most delicious flame-out EVAH!

Kikn, as long as Carolina continues to kick the snot out of Clemson can we please refrain from letting Clemson fans know our true feelings about Dabo. Why don't we all go on record and agree that Dabo may be the best head coach in the country and Clemson needs to put him on a 7 year contract (minimum) before he gets snatched up by Bama (his alma mater) when/if Saban leaves. I say no more negative Dabo posts. If Clemson is happy with him, then I couldn't be happier for them and we as Gamecocks should promote Dabo to them every chance we get.

It depends on what the score is.

If the taters are ahead, he's chest bumping & high fiving the players, clapping, and running around excited like the good little cheerleader he is.

If they are losing, he's running his hand through his hair, wiping his nose, or looking at the play sheet, or just standing there with a dejected look on his face. See the WVU game for examples of the "losing" version of dumbo.

Taters have a mediocre WR choach in Dabo, running the whole program into the ground, and a highschool WR choach in Scott...

ability to talk ad nauseum he wins over recruits, their famiiles, the media, etc. It never ceases to amaze me as to why they believe huis schtick - the guy has a background in SALES as much as he has coaching! He is a great salesman. We have a head coach who is 100% football coach. You are absolutely right - not only does Dabo have no previous head coaching, even coordinator experience, and he is a salesman to boot!. He can recruit and sell - that`s about it, Clemmers! Can`t wait to whip your delusional rear ends again in November - 4 in a row!

He was lucky that Bowden left him with lots of talent on the offensive and defensive lines. They were senior-dominated on both lines of scrimmage. And the ACC was never weaker (didn't have one team finish in the final AP Top 20 for the first time in over 20 years).

It's not difficult to hire assistants with more experience than him. But are they good assistants? There is no proof they are. The fact is that clemson limped across the finish line losing 4 out of their last 6.

Yes, clemson's line of scrimmage recruiting has been mostly mediocre under Sweeney. They are going to have a difficult time next season against Carolina (they are certainly not in our class), Auburn, Florida State, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech and NC State. I don't see them much above a .500 team this coming season.

I'm not impressed with Sweeney's hires. Morris' offense was much less effective down the stretch. He caught lots of teams early when people were unfamiliar with his style. But as the season progressed, most Defensive Coordinators had him figured out. And look how Tajh Boyd performed down the stretch. He threw twice as many interceptions in his last 6 games than he did in his first 8. Chad Morris is the QB coach. Regarding their new DC, Venables: Oklahoma had more talent than anyone else in the Big 12, except Texas. Yet, Baylor, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech each scored more than 40 points against Oklahoma. That's just poor coaching. They fired Kevin Steele for that? clemson fans are not arguing against Carolina fans over this; they are arguing against the facts. clemson fans will continue talking brave up to the opening kickoff. But it won't change the inevitable outcomes in 2012.

Funny because this has always been us: good skill players but can't hang for 4 quarters on the lines.
Tide is starting to change though. Clemson will scoot past you on a play or two but can they hang against a GOOD team for 4 quarters? I dont think they can.
I disagree they will be .500 or less though. In the ACC they are in the upper tier (for what little that is worth) and will probably have an OK record.

Oh I agree. I didn't mean to leave the impression that I think they will be .500 or less. No, with an ACC schedule, a .500 record is the floor. I think they will win more than 6 games. I just don't believe they will win a lot more than that. 7 is what I see them winning.

Oh I dont know. Maybe the corny arm locking or the whiny rant of a so-called head coach after getting your butts kicked by your rival for the 3rd straight time. The man knows how to sell and 18 yr old kids are impressionable. But from an X's and O's standpoint, he is more fitting for a Pee Wee league than a Div I head coach.

As for Xs and Os, that may be true. But I wouldn't want him as my kid's Pee Wee coach.

Actually, I could see him teaching kids about having fire, but I wonder why that doesn't transfer to his players up there at cu?

It's fun having a cheerleader coach to teen agers for obvious reasons; hovever, it may be that they see through the charade(sp?) when things are tough. Reference our game in the fourth qtr. He runs over to the offensive linemen on the bench and gives them a second pep talk AFTER the offensive coordinator had just finished talking to them. I believe it was calculated on his part for the benefit of the cameras and the expressions on the players and the OC's face told as much. The players didn' even look at him and the OC glanced at him in what appeared to be disgust.

The original post provides a good summary of the situation.

Only thing I would add is that the sales executive also made a ton of money after you had just given him a raise - and you have to hire on the cheap.

If Dabo talks as much off camera as he does on it, then I can SEE why kids commit to him. They are TIRED of his rant, want him to shut that PIE HOLE, and just give in to the idiot to get some damn peace and quiet!

In all seriousness, I've never seen a guy that loves a microphone more than Dabo Swinney. I assume he was lacking attention at his home as a child, and he's making up for that at every opportunity!

"We've got greatness in us"!!! Sure you do Dabo????

His mouth is the main reason I think his teams start hot & finish very poorly. It's got to be exhausting to listen to that rant everyday & jumping all over the place, etc. I believe the players just get sick of him over the course of a season & are just ready to get it over with as evidenced by statements made by the OL to WVU defenders in the Orange Bowl.
