If we beat Duke and then Miami on Sunday...

Question

do we pass Duke in the polls.

I know they have a better overall record, but we will be in 1st place in the ACC standings, and beaten them twice in the season.

I don't think they should be ranked very high, but the voters seem to be voting for the DUKE of seasons past.

Anyone?

assuming they go 1-1, no. we are going to have a hard time breaking the top 10 if we go 2-0 this week. the teams ahead of us simply have
michigan has 7 losses ahead of us, but they have big wins.
and florida did beat us handily and they onyl have 6 losses.

the only way i see us jumping duke is if they go 0-2 this week
if we go 2-0 i see duke at 8 and FSU at 12ish maybe 11

What big wins does Michigan have over us? They have losses to both acc teams they played which I believe it was NC state and UVA. Honestly they are way over ranked IMO! Yeah they beat Ohio State this past week and beat Indiania but really they are big wins? We have defeated 2 top 5's (3 if we win on Thursday) I would say we deserve to blow right by Michigan IF we go 2-0 this week!

No, the polls are not done based on head to head results. If so, Duke would always be above say Kansas but Temple ahead of Duke. Its based on the season as a whole and even if FSU beats Duke twice, both would have 3 top 10 wins but FSU more bad losses.

I'm not saying the polls are based solely on head to head results.

We would also be at least tied for first and Duke would be second or third depending on what UNC does.

I would think the rankings are based more on how a team is playing now, not how they played earlier in the season.

I'd glady trade a top ten rank next week for a win in the NCAA tourny. I really like the spotlight top ten gives but it is fleeting compared to reaching the 16 or better.

Unlikely because Duke has played a much tougher out of conference schedule; We don't really have any out of conference "standout" wins and Duke does. Plus there overall W-L record is likely to be better.

It is more important to remain in the conversation, than actually being ranked above them.

I've written this a few times.

The ACC Title game is on Selection Sunday. If we reach the ACC Title Game, and have remained in the conversation then it is very easy for the selection committee to construct their brackets using two scenarios.

#2 seed to either Duke/UNC. And a #3 seed to FSU.

If we win the title, then they can easily flip-flop us with either UNC/Duke. And we'll grab a 2nd seed.

When that committee begins work on Sunday morning...their minds are pretty made up on what they're going to do. Beating Duke Thursday, and maintaining our level of play makes it easier for them and helps us.

They are not gonna arrange brackets where a Duke/UNC could wind up being a 4th seed. It's gonna be 2 or 3. We can benefit from that.

All we've got to do is win.
