That they entered on January 8th, what would you say to them is the reason for our turnaround? That is what I hope the committee decides to go with, instead of looking at anything that occurred in the 2011 calendar year

1. Better shooting. Hitting our open 3 pointers gives a lot more room underneath for the bigs to work, as it forces the defense to defend the 3.
2. Much better ball control, as our turnovers per game have been probably significantly fewer since the Clemson debacle, with 1 or 2 exceptions.

I find it interesting that for the second time in three seasons, we've improved after initially trying to work our offense through our big men (Alabi in '09, James/Gibson in '11). Both years we didn't start to improve offensively until we abandoned that ideology in favor of a three-guard lineup. It seems our coaches would prefer to work inside out, but our bigs haven't been up to the challenge. Whatever works.

I think you are right on in this assessment; the inside out philosophy I also believe is preferred by our coaches but hasn't worked really well except for the last half of Alexander Johnson's last season. I like that Ham is willing to adapt to our personnel

This has also occurred in game as well. For whatever reason, we have a very difficult time using our size advantage in a traditional sense on offense.

I'd argue it's largely because our big men are (and have been) either aggressive or offensively skilled, not both.

The last ten games of the season mean much more than the first ten games. It has always been that way when the NCAA Tourney Selection Committee does their thing. So, the moral of the story is if you are going to be in a coma ... do it in January.

A more effective offense one that included cutting down on turnovers (or at least avoiding the turnovers that resulted in baskets going the other way) and converting our shot opportunities. That starts with playing more like a team by moving the ball better being unselfish in finding a teammate with the better shot. We had players trying to do too much on their own. The improvement on offense seems to coincide as well with the eligibility of Ian Miller who has a better ability (Michael excluded) to break down defenses. No offense to our other guards who can play smart, but Ian seems to be quicker with the first step and can create his shot a little better.
