Soccer - CUSA

What will happen to USC's soccer program with the CUSA-MWC merger. Will we still be able to play in the new conference?

Pretty sure the CUSA-MWC merger is for football only. The conferences remain separate in all other sports. At least that is my understanding.

Good question. I wish the rest of the SEC would sponsor soccer. UK is the only other SEC school with a men's soccer team and they're in C-USA with USC. Coach Berson says he believes they will add the three schools in the MWC that sponsor soccer AFA, UNLV, and New Mexico.

No it's all sports. Hawaii is the only school which will be football only.

It will be all sports thus creating a huge travel expense - Hawaii is the one "only football" member / MWC will play each other / CUSA will play each other - two winners will play for a (whatever they end up naming the conf) championship , the idea is to try to put the winner in a BCS bowl game.
This thing is gonna be one hell of a mess for sure that or bankrupt some of the smaller ($$$ wise) members.

Maybe WVU will join now since the B1g 12 does not have soccer.

Heard that WVU was going to petition the ACC for soccer , just to see what they could do to Clemson in yet another field event.

As someone who actually goes to a few home games each year, I'm less concerned about travel budget and more concerned about the status of the program. I don't think the merger should hurt us any. Hyman will just have to rub a couple more nickels together on some travel.

Travel to the state of Wyoming , Nevada as well as California for a soccer match..yes that would be real cost effective.

These are the schools involved.
Southern Miss, Marshall, East Carolina, UAB, Tulsa, Rice, UTEP and Tulane from C-USA and Wyoming, Air Force, Colorado State, UNLV, New Mexico, Fresno State, Nevada and Hawaii from the MWC. Hawaii(football-only).

Well, it's not like it really matters. Only four current MWC schools - SDSU, New Mexico, Air Force, UNLV - sponsor men's soccer. Three of them currently play as part of a MWC/WAC/Big Sky congolomerate known as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, and SDSU competes as an affiliate member of the Pac-12.

Long story short - the CUSA-MWC merger shouldn't affect men's soccer very much, if at all.
