Just announced that Florida State will face Savannah State on September 8th this year. The schedule is finalized and it should be released by the ACC either this afternoon or tomorrow.

FSU contacted every BCS school known to man, however, due to date and financial restrictions, they had to go with Savannah State.

You can blame this squarely on the ACC killing the Big East by stealing teams left and right. West Virginia wanted a better option. Can't blame them, but they are still liable for not holding their end of the bargain.

In re: WV's financial liability. Has FSU cancelled the game scheduled in 2013 at WV? I doubt FSU would chose to play just the road game from that scheduled series. So if FS files lawsuit as some have mentioned, would there not be a second or countersuit over the 2013 game?

Savannah State may possibly be the weakest team to appear on FSU's schedule in "several decades". They are coming off a 1-10 season that included a 47-7 loss to FAMU.

They'll push Charleston Southern for that honor.

An FSU lawsuit will be another waste of money.

Awesome home schedule:

Clemson 10-4
Florida 7-6
Wake Forest 6-7
Boston College 4-8
Duke 3-9
..and a pair of FCS schools.

Unfortunately, as another poster mentioned, it is what it is...

Not a thing FSU could have done. They contacted all the big boys. Unfortunately, the dates that everyone could have arranged with each other depends upon too many other teams to fill voids. I blame this strictly on the greed of the ACC stealing teams and destroying the Big East. I also blame West Virginia, not for leaving for the Big 12, but for dishonoring their legal duties to stay committed to the Big East for the departure period. No way should WVU have been allowed to jump to the Big 12 until 2014. But FSU can thank those who wanted ACC expansion to 14 teams. Bad idea, 12 was just fine.

Yet again, I will always go to see the Noles play, not for the opponent. It just sucks that you take away the atmosphere of the tailgating for such a huge game. I'll always continue to tailgate for all the home games, but this takes a bit of the buzz of the unique matchup away. I was really looking forward to seeing WVU here next year, since they jacked up Clemson. Would have been a great game. However, it's a business and there are realities. Savannah State took a payday to come here and play. Others simply couldn't make it work.

Oh yeah, I would like to personally thank Oklahoma who scheduled a non-conference away game against Texas-El Paso. What a joke! Hey Oklahoma, you could have moved the FAMU game to 9/1 and traveled here on 9/8. We would have gladly returned the trip to Norman next year. I thought that was a joke. Rutgers had a date opened, but I hear they couldn't make the financials work out.

It is what it is, see ya'll in Doak next year no matter who we play...

Of course we should sue WVU. We lost millions as a direct result of their actions. Deal with the 2013 game when we get there, I doubt WVU wants that game either. FSU shouldn't care either way, I doubt that will be a NC contender anyways considering we lose out starting QB and most of our starting defense.

Not that it makes a huge difference, but I really wish we wouldn't schedule FCS schools except in situations like this, so Savannah State is excusable -- I have a hard time thinking we couldn't find a MAC, WAC, or Sun-Belt team to come here instead of Murray State. I hope the ACC does not schedule a home game for us on 9/15 with anyone other than Clemson -- spread the cupcakes out.

My question is how do you make plea to jump an SEC team that is undefeated or 1 loss with a team like this on our schedule?

Any lawyer who has glanced at the contract can see that.

Now, an open question in my mind is whether we have to withdraw (read: pay $$$) in 2013, or has WVU breached the whole contract and thus we are released from that 2013 obligation ?

This contract did a terrible job of protecting either side.

By winning out? If we win at VT at UM at USF vs UF vs CU vs Coastal Champ and beat who we're supposed to we will go to the NCG assuming there's not 2 other undefeated BCS conference champs. That doesn't happen very often though and even then we could still have a stronger schedule than other conference champs, not SEC, depending on how conference strength plays out.

Plenty of empty seats for this game. From a most likely sellout to this.

After looking at some of the SEC non-conference games this schedule of FSU non-conference games fits well into that league.

FSU - Murray St, SSU, USF, UF

Alabama - Western Kentucky, Western Carolina, FAU, Michigan
Arkansas - Jax St, ULM, Rutgers, Tulsa
Auburn - Clemson, ULM, NM State, Alabama A&M
Florida - Bowling Green, Louisanan Ragin Cajun, Jax St, FSU
Georgia - Buffalo, FAU, Ga South, Ga Tech
Kentucky - Louisville, Kent St, Western KY, Samford
LSU - North Texas St, Wash, Idaho, Towson
Mississippi - Central Ark, UTEP, Texas, Tulane
MSU - Jackson St, Troy, So. Ala, Middle Tenn St.
Missouri - ASU, UCF, two unknowns presently
So. Carolina - ECU, UAB, Wofford, Clemson
Tennessee - NCST, GAST, Akron, Troy
Tx A&M - LA Tech, SMU, So Car St, Sam Houston St.
Vandy - Northwestern, Presbyterian (Blue Hose), U Mass, Wake

So enough of the SEC 'El Toro poo poo!'

The game will be dubbed "Band Day". Per Spetman, Savannah St. has a great band.

If it's bands we're looking for, maybe next year we can schedule Julliard! I bet they have a great string section!

Actually..."Band Day" is tradition from long-ago.

He's talking of bringing in High School Bands.

Savannah State isn't going to bring their band down here. They're going to throw their team on 2 busses. Drive down to the game I-95/I-295/I-10. (300 miles) Pick-up their check and drive back. They'll probably have some cancellation fee that they have to pay No Iowa, but that was probably brokered into their guarantee.

If that is true than Randy Spetman should be fired. We lose 2.5 mill plust then turn around and fill their stadium the next year? I don't think so.

If I understand this correctly, FSU will settle for $500,000 from WVU when we would have made $2.0 to $2.5 million. Sue them!!! How could it not be easy to prove that WVU hurt FSU financially? They easily forked over $10 million to the Big East. They must have plenty of cash to go around. Sue them!!! Then, go to Morgantown in 2013, and run up the score.

LOL at the negative comments. Every team in America is doing this, and it wasn't as if FSU tried to play Savannah State. The whining is laughable. See you in a BCS bowl in January. Go Noles.

You act like scheduling FCS schools is the ONLY way to make a BCS bowl...and who cares about a BCS bowl unless it's the title game. I'd rather play a game with implications in the regular season than a meaningless game in the middle of the week in January...but that's just me.

Nope, I think we would have made a BCS bowl with or without WVU this year, but the road did just get easier. My problem is bashing our non-conference schedule that includes UF and USF. That is more than most teams are willing to play out of conference. We have two full scrimmages, most teams have 3 or 4. Our fans seem to want to play at Oklahoma every week or the schedule sucks. And then when we do go on the road to Gainesville and win our fans say it was because UF sucks, not because FSU earned it. No winning with our fanbase.
