Projected Final Big Ten Standings

0 like 0 dislike
UM's win over NW last night made me realize something, they have a really good chance at winning the Big Ten now based on remaining schedules. It appears that the Big Ten is only going to send 6 teams to the Dance this year and Purdue is by no means a lock at this point (but should get in based on an extremely weak bubble). I believe MSU will win the tiebreaker over UM based on their projected 2-0 record over 3rd place OSU. Anyway, here is how I think things will shake out after we dominate Purdue again on March 4th.

1. Michigan State 14-4 (co-champs)
2. Michigan 14-4 (co-champs)
3. Ohio State 13-5
4. Wisconsin 12-6
5. Indiana 10-8
6. Purdue 9-9

I think both IU and Purdue will be sitting at 9-8 in conference play ahead of the rematch in Bloomington. That could end up being a VERY important game for us as the 5th seed in the BTT will allow us to play Wisc in the 2nd round (assuming we beat NEB or Penn State in the first round) as opposed to having to play Ohio State.

Which B1G game does IU lose @ Minnesota or home against MSU?

and now we have to win at either the Barn or at home against MSU not to go 9-9. Grrrrr...

The thought of tying Purdue or even finishing a game behind is sickening.

All of a sudden our last 3 B1G games don't look so friendly. No way we lose to PU at home, but to go into that game on a 3 game losing streak would be worst case scenario for a team that was once looking at a 3 seed.

We can beat them. So can Ohio St. Unless something miraculous happens in Champaign/College Station, Michigan should win the B1G outright. I think we will be a 5 seed in the B1G tourney regardless.

I have a good feeling about that game, it's easy for people to point to our effort at Iowa, but we really ran into a buzzsaw there with Gatens going career on us. It's just as easy to point to our effort at Purdue and predict that team to show up at the Barn on Sunday.

You know what bothers me now? If UM ends up as co-champs, there is a 50/50 chance that Trey Burke is named FOY over CZ. I was REALLY pulling for NW last night...

two weeks ago we were thinking of scenarios where we could finish ahead of UM...

As long as the wheels don't fall off, I think Zeller's a lock, for FOY.

And I really don't think this team has a 'pay back' mentality. In hindsight, they should have come out like wild dogs against Iowa. Our D, helped their buzzsaw considerably.

don't count them out on Sunday like a lot of other people on this board are doing...they can win that game. This is not a very good Minnesota team and one that is reeling right now...after they lose to MSU tonight, they will be on a 4 game losing streak and 2-6 over their last 8 with a W over ILL (thanks to one of the worst calls of the season) and a W at Nebraska.

We choked that one away. We'd still lose on tiebreakers for the 4, but we'd have clinched no worse than 9-9 already.

that's the only game I didn't see this season...thank God.

we need to be big MSU fans tonight as we don't want to face a confident Minnesota team that suddenly has something to play for. If they lose tonight, they are officially done at 5-10 in the Big Ten.

For me personally, the Minnesota loss at home was the worst loss of the season, and the worst way to lose. Play from behind the whole game, and Minne hits every shot down the stretch.

Kind like the Iowa loss... but worse, cause it was at home to a team that was 0-4. Bad loss.

we start discussing which loss was worse.

Here is what I really want to happen...if we can win at Minnesota on Sunday and end up in the 5/12 game vs Nebraska in the BTT, we could have a really good shot at beating every team in the conference at least once this season...(beat Wisc in the 2nd round)

We were outplayed by Iowa and Minnesota. I can handle that. We outplayed Nebraska and Michigan for most of the games but had 5-10 bad minutes in each. I can handle getting outplayed.

The Michigan State game also hurts. That game was a roller coaster. But it was 2 teams punching each other and I can handle that too. But Nebraska and Michigan we gave away.

I'm just getting pissed now.

Dare I say winning at Minnesota is a 'must win' just for my sanity.

A Nebraska win tonight, would help as well.

3 road games left and home game against Iowa. Penn St has 3 games left, 2 home against NW and Michigan and @ Purdue. If no one wins any more games, both teams will be 4-14. They split the season series but Nebraska has one win over the top 5 teams in the league against us. Penn St will be the 12 seed.

to win by 2.

That loss didn't bother me because I could rationally blame others for that.

and NEB might beat Iowa at home, but I'm hoping they lose that one to finish 12th so we can beat them in the Thursday game of the BTT.

I can handle losing to good teams, no matter how bad the situations are. But unexpected losses to bad teams makes the real differences. I think limiting unexpected losses to lesser opponents is the most important thing to build a winning program on consistent basis. If a team beats most teams that they should beat and wins more than often against good and better teams, it will be pretty nice situation to be in.

It is not bad but beating a team 3 times in a roll is harder than getting revenge from a lesser team that just beat you not long ago. Even against bad teams, the more times you play them, the better chances they will have to beat you. We don't see sweeps that often in the NBA playoffs, even when 1 seeds play 8 seeds.

speak for your own ill-conceived expectations.

Wisconsin is a lesser opponent.

Of course we are talking about 2 road wins and a home win over Ohio State so it seems unlikely, however, not impossible. The road games would be At Penn State and At Iowa...which are both winnable. I think they would be less likely to beat OSU at home, but if they can pull that off they would be at 19-11 and likely in..especially with at least 1 win in Big Ten tourney.

Iowa, who is #7 in Big Ten right now has too poor of an overall record (14-13).

Minnesota who is #9 would have a higher chance than Iowa, however, they still have to play IU, MSU, and Wisconsin.

So unless NW can pull off some wins, I would think you are right about B1G only sending 6 teams. Somewhat surprising considering many think it is the top college basketball conference right now. How many did the Big East send last year?? wasnt it 10?

since they beat us at home, can't see a win up there is likely.......not according to our last few games and the way we've played.

unfortunately, they paid us back in a major way in the BTT.

Will never forget that miracle.

people will "think" then "think again" then "post"....

Is that too much to ask? I wonder....

is that when it comes to conf. play, in the Big East when a lower ranked team wins, they move up; in the B1G when a lower ranked team wins, the higher team moves down.

Early in the conf. play, they were talking about 8 and even 9 B1G's making the dance. now that teams have beaten each other up a bit we're down to a fuzzy 6. Conf. play is a zero-sum-game, there has to be winners and losers, some upsets and some blowouts.

If MSU wins tonight, they will be playing for no worse than a share of the title, even if they lose to IU. OSU is not winning in the Breslin on Draymond Green's senior Day.
