I have a question for you. I purchased the Hauppauge 1212 HD-PVR High Definition Personal Video Recorder. I recorded a game in M2TS? The video is funny acting. should I have recorded it in a different format? Thanks. Sorry to bother you, but I know you are pretty much an expert in matters like this.

I just downloaded VLC 2.0 and it seems to have corrected the problem. I think I'm good to go.

I was getting ready to suggest that it was a possible codec issue...but it seems you have found that to be the answer yourself.

I'm very new at this, but I think it may turn out to be the best purchase I've made regarding video. I can DVR a game and then convert it or record it live with the PVR. I can now store on an external hard drive vs. a cabinet full of games.

I have had the Hauppauge 1212 recorder since they first came out a few years ago. You want to record HD content in m2ts - that is what it was designed for, and as you know, it does it well. The problem is playing the m2ts (blue ray) back. That was my very first and only problem I had and I never found a software program that worked well at doing that except the software that came with the 1212 - and it cannot adjust the brightness, contrast, saturation etc. The best program I ever found was the Cyberlink Power DVD9 Ultimate but it was a pain to use. Ultimately I chose to purchase a stand alone hardware player, the Western Digital WD Media Player and I have never looked back. The WD player is a separate box that has two USB inputs to connect USB hard drives and one HDMI and one RCA connection to connect to your TV. And it come with a remote for playback. Good luck at finding a software player that works. If you find one let me know.
