UF Commit Lawson: "Bama is my dream school"

SWEET

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida landed six top prospects during its incredible junior day on Saturday. When linebacker Dillan Lawson announced on Facebook that he had committed to Florida, most the same reaction -- who?

For the 6-foot-3, 218-pound linebacker from Crestview (Fla.) Crestview HS, he shouldn't have to worry about college coaches not knowing who he is anymore. Lawson, who since his announcement ans subsequent film review has moved into the ESPNU 150 Watch List, said his commitment to Florida was even a surprise to him.

"I mean I was born and raised in Alabama," Lawson said. "I have an Alabama tattoo on my chest. That's the reason why. I'm just an Alabama fan. That's all there is about it. I mean Alabama is my dream school, off the top, No. 1. I told coach Will [Muschamp], 'Coach I was a Gator fan when I was in Alabama, they were like my second favorite team. But when I moved to Florida I saw how cocky and crazy these Gator fans where, so that kind of turned me away from Florida.' I told him that."

And I'm assuming the rest of the story explains why he's going to Florida?

He doesn't have an offer from Bama... yet.

"I had an opportunity to go to Alabama the same day I went to Florida (for last Saturday's junior days), but I chose to go to Florida," Lawson said. "I'm going to go to all the junior days. That's why I verballed. I mean, Florida, that's my main school. I"m still going to go to junior days to get a look and see how other campuses are. I want to experience other colleges and travel a little bit."

Alabama has already had two junior days. I am not positive, but I am imagine there is a limit on how many a school can have considering the restrictions the NCAA has on everything else.

If the kid has options like Florida, he would be crazy to go to Alabama anyway. They already have about 15 four and five star linebackers and Saban has never been afraid to get rid of kids who arent helping him win

I think that is the point he is trying to make. Add Larson with the Lincoln kids and we might be setting ourselves up for some indigestion down the road.

The kids know that and still pick Bama. They think getting cut will never happen to them. That is for the kids that suck.

If I were Muschamp then I'd personally go to his home & have a sitdown with him & the family. I'd deliver an ultimatum. "Either you're coming to Florida or you're not. There's no middle ground."

No one, NO ONE, should be permiited to dictate terms to UF most especially a 17 year old who hasn't accomplished a damned thing.

He has had some personal challenges. It might have to do with schools not having a chance to background check effectively. I would hope that Champ is on it. he has been climbing up the HS's arse about the kid for a while. I don't think any of the scouts that have seen his reel doubt his ability.

This kid is really good. The way he plays reminds me of those Bama LBers.

Obviously he never paid much attention to the bama fans while he lived there.
They are some of the most cocky, crazy and annoying college football fans around.

That is exactly what I was thinking. He must have never met the the mouth breathing crowd that runs around screaming 13 13 13 titles! Not all Bama fans are that way but You get the Updyke's and Tea baggers together and it's a deliverance moment.

I won't argue the crazy and annoying part but when UF is on top, you guys are as cocky as anyone and why wouldn't you be? It sort of goes with the territory and when the players start buying into the hype, someone else gets to be cocky for a while.

If Alabama is Lawson's dream school, he must have a lot of nightmares.

My thing is...why the hell does a 17 yr. old have a tattoo of a freakin team on his chest. Seriously...a team? One that you have no connection to other than being a fan. It would be one thing if he played for Bama or something. And now...he's not even committed to Bama. The dude doesn't sound all that bright to be honest.

I'm pretty sure that both Bama and UF recruit football players who aren't very bright. "Student athlete" is a very vague term, when applied to football players.

Yes, I did at midnight last night. I found his number from the Sugar Bowl itinerary my boy that played for Bama had with all the numbers except Nick Saban. I left multiple voicemails to staff

I am not even counting this kid as a commit, he has a freaking Bama tatoo, he almost has to go their if offered, and you know they're going to offer, bamma signs 38 kids a year.
