Anybody else getting pissed off about hearing how bad the SEC is?

0 like 0 dislike
It drives me nuts I cant help it. Hearing Dumba$$ fans from other schools and sometimes analyst say the SEC is terrible

according to the last braketology, and the top 3 seeds
Big East 9
Big Ten 7
Big 12 6
SEC 5
ACC 5
Mountain West 3
West Coast 3
Pac-12 3

Theres not a huge difference in the SEC and the top conferences other that the Big East. We have close to as many in the tournament and as far as depth.
Arkansas beat Michigan
LSU beat Marquette
Tennessee beat UConn
Georgia beat ND
Not saying these teams are great but you cant honestly think they arent good when they play well. If you want to say the Big East is better fine but its wrong to say the SEC is awful and act like Kentucky hasnt beat anybody. We have 3 top 25 wins out of conference something not many teams can say.

It's based in large part because UK is undefeated so far in conference, therefore that must mean the entire league is terrible, when in reality some of the truth of the matter is just that UK is pretty flippin' good this season.

Objectively, that said, I can't believe they are still projecting 9 teams from the Big East this year...the Big East is just not very good outside of Syracuse, imo. UCONN has been awful, Pitt is down, and there are a tier of teams that are solid (UL, Georgetown, Marquette) but the middle tier to the lowest of teams is dreadful this season in that conference.

I think the ripping of the SEC this year is justified. We may get five teams in, but only two will have a decent seed. There's currently only two ranked SEC teams. We're better than the Pac-12, but I think the other five power conferences have us beat as a whole this year.

Outside of Syracuse, the Big East will fold in the NCAA tournament just like last season outside of UConn's magical run.

You nailed it.

People HAVE to say that the SEC is terrible because to admit that it's not terrible is to be forced to say that UK is great. Given the choice, they say that the SEC is terrible.

Last season, when UK lost 6 conference games, we weren't hearing that the SEC is terrible. We were hearing that UK couldn't win games away from Rupp and games aren't played in Rupp. Then we went out and won the SEC Tournament and went to a Final Four.

People will say whatever they need to say in order to keep from giving UK credit. Think of it this way: every time someone says "the SEC sucks!" just smile and know that they just paid UK a great compliment, because that's exactly what they've done. 3dGrin

I'm not convinced that Syracuse won't choke in the tournament either.

I don't... I think the people who knock the SEC just don't watch or understand basketball that well.

There is no way the Big 10 has 7 teams capable of making a run in the tourney. Thats all I hear at work is how good the Big 10 is, and I remind them about their super team last year of Ohio St and who sent them packing in the tourney.

The Media has a love affair with the Big 10 and Big East. Others are just over seeded and don't deserve to make it.

Patrick Patterson called it when he said without true road games left (entering SEC tourney), our guys would play well the rest of the season.

We only have 1 true road game left. That means every game outside of Gainesville, we will have the gym loaded with a majority of our own fans.

And that doesn't spell success for our tournament opponents.

The SEC isn't as good as it was supposed to be before the season started, however it doesn't really matter. Conference strength doesn't matter that much in college basketball like it does in college football where SOS plays a role in postseason play.

Sure, you can't beat up on a bunch of patsies all year and have an average record and expect to be a lock for the tournament. However if you take care of business you shouldn't have a problem making the tournament if you are a team from one of the power 6 conferences.

I still haven't figured out the argument from fans in the Big East. What does it matter if you have the toughest conference or not? Maybe it matters if you get 9 teams in the tournament but you still have to win games once your in the tournament. If I remember correctly the Big East as a whole flopped in the tournament last year outside of UCONN.

the argument is made as a method of justifying inferiority (all their losses) so as not to have to admit it.

Well said, my thoughts exactly. The only one's complaining about how bad the SEC is are the fans who are getting their a$$ waxed in their conference....let's use IU as an example.

Forget what the analysts are saying and go by the eye test. IMO the SEC and the rest of the conferences are down from the last two years. On the other hand UK has a GREAT team in a fairly weak conference. They're not helping the perception by beating the conference opponents so easily. That's not UKs problem and honestly most teams play their best against UK. The Cats are the best team in the nation and FAR better than any of the other SEC teams. Enjoy.

The SEC isn't really any good. It hardly ever is. Agree with the poster above that said it doesn't matter.

You know, unless and until we lose in March/April and blame it on not getting tested ...

The only conference that is far and away better than the SEC is the Big 10. They are legit and will likely feature 5 teams seeded 5 or better.

The Big 12 is top heavy, and I'm not sure it's top three are significantly better than ours.

The ACC is, one again, inflated.

The Big East, outside of Syracuse, has a number of teams that are simply inconsistant and most of them will be out of the tourney by the Sweet Sixteen.

We would likely have 2-3 conference losses in the Big 10, but we would win it. I think that's what the media is reluctant to admit.
