Deuce McAllister set to join Ole Miss staff

February 2, 2012

Former Ole Miss running back and All-Pro running back Deuce McAllister is set to join the Ole Miss staff under Hugh Freeze.

McAllister's exact title has yet to be determined, but it's likely that McAllister will serve in some sort of offensive quality control capacity.

McAllister, who was in Oxford over the weekend, will not be one of the nine full-time assistant coaches.

After a brilliant college career at Ole Miss, Deuce was drafted in the first round of the 2001 NFL draft by the New Orleans Saints. He finished his career as the Saints all-time leading rusher and earned All-Pro honors twice. At Ole Miss, Deuce finished his career with 41 touchdowns and passed the 100-yard rushing mark in 13 games.

The Ole Miss staff includes two other former players in co-offensive coordinator / offensive line coach Matt Luke and wide receivers coach Grant Heard.

The rest of the staff includes Dave Wommack (co-defensive coordinator / assistant head coach), Tom Allen (linebackers), Maurice Harris (tight ends / recruiting coordinator), Derek Nix (running backs), Wesley McGriff (co-defensive coordinator / corners), and Dan Werner (co-offensive coordinator / quarterbacks).

The Ole Miss spring game is set for April 21st at 1 pm CT.

Welcome back home Deuce.

If we could just go ahead and get a quality AD, it seems we could be set to join the modern era of college sports.

I hope every Rebel understands what Freeze is doing. He is bringing in the right personal that will help us get to where we want to be. McAllister doesn't have any coaching back ground but he'll teach these kids what it takes on and off the field. Very smart hire by Freeze.

My favorite Rebel of all time.

Glad he's back and I think he'll be a wonderful addition.

We might get some guys who want to stay now even when somebody comes waving money (unlike, for example, Tubervile).

I can see Deuce being a GREAT influence on players.

A great way to have a successful program is we must unite as fan's. That means we stand behind our coach and players through the bad times I know there will be some the next few years. Fussing back in forth as Ole Miss fans is just splitting the fanbase. The coach in each of us always say's I would have done it this way, but would our plays work prolly not. I hope we can give Freeze at least 5 years to turn this program around, and hope we get a good AD that cares.
