usc students pulling for Kentucky in front row?

0 like 0 dislike
On 107.5 The Game here in Columbia they were talking about 6-8 kids at the Kentucky basketball game that were on the 1st row in the student section wearing blue and clearly pulling for Kentucky. Anybody got a picture of this, I've looked a little bit but can't find one.

I doubt they were USC students, but there were kids in blue in the student section no doubt...probably 70% of the crowd was Kentucky

I heard that same statement on 107.5 and I was wondering - how can someone tell who is a fan, and who is a student at a school pulling for another team? that's impossible. But....

I think they very well could have been Kentucky fans that go to USC. It's often hard to tell though because fans of those teams will buy tickets to away games, and some have friends that will get them tickets to those games.

A friend of mine is a huge UK fan and he got a great seat down low to the UK at Indiana game this year thanks to a friend that's an Indiana fan.

We like to think all the students at our schools pull for the home team. That's not true. I know diehard UNC and Duke basketball fans that go to Clemson and South Carolina. I know Clemson fans at South Carolina, and I've known USC fans that go to Clemson. They aren't the norm, but they are there.

While they don't typically sit in the front rows at games, they are there.

They said their ID's were checked and they were indeed students, of course they could have a friend's ID. That would mean that's a USC student that didn't go to the game but allowed his UK friend to go for free.

Granted for most basketball games you can get a ticket and go where ever you want but it should be difficult to get in the student section for a big game like this, much less the front row when you wearing the other teams colors. I went to Clemson for 4 years, camped out for basketball games and I only got on the front row of the seats (never got floor seats) one time. I was at an UNC-Clemson game where a student got in the student section and proceeded to take his orange shirt off to have a UNC shirt underneath. About 10 min. later ushers had a talk with him and made him put the orange shirt back on.

I don't know how that's possible and I'm not saying our students are better (though I think they are) but it's embarrassing when something like that is seen on national TV for what should be the most passionate fans (students on the front row).

Our arena seats 18,000 people. It's not hard to get down low with a lot of available seats.

UK is the #1 team in the country- Columbia is a city and a lot of out of towners live here. A good number of UK alums live in the Charlotte area as well from what I understand and can easily drive down.

UK fans are known to get great seats- and work out deals.

It wouldn't be the first time students worked deals with other students to sit down low at a game - especially when you have a lot of available seats.

As someone pointed out - they probably were UK fans who are students at USC. I also remembering camping out for USC tickets but was lucky enough to be there when USC was good. Either way it doesn't matter as there are plenty of great tickets to be had no matter who USC is playing.

I understand the purpose of the thread to be poking at USC fans and the support of the basketball program - a bit of overkill at this point IMHO as I don't think you're going to find any USC fans to argue with. We all knew it would be a home game for Kentucky, and nobody is shy talking about the lack of support for the basketball program at this point.

I personally think it was more embarrassing that the chants in the gym that you could hear on TV were from UK fans, and there were even a couple of "air ball" chants you could hear directed at our players. Unfortunately that is the state of the USC bball program, and I don't see it changing until Horn is fired. People at this point have better things to do with their money.

I understand people not coming to games because they don't like Horn but it still bothers me. I also understand if the roles were reversed and this were Clemson we probably wouldn't have many more ppl if any more at games too so not a crack on the gamecocks but the situation itself. It sucks for the kids that although they aren't having a good season are still busting their tails for their team and school.

Agree with all of that - certainly unfortunate for the kids, but they are getting a free education so there is benefit there. Nobody likes to see people not supporting the team or attending games, but at this point with Horn i'm not sure what else people can do - it's beyond the point of just being a proud fan. To pay with your money and time to watch what Horn is putting out is somewhat masochistic, and financially irresponsible unless you have enough money where it doesn't matter, or it's an event with your family where you don't care about the outcome.

They were students that are from Kentucky. I know some of them. The student section at USC is general admission. If you get a student ticket to a game, and you get there earlier than everyone else, you can get seats on the front row.

And embarrass the school you go to on national TV at the same time.

I guess- but I can't imagine too many folks were paying attention to that - it was a Kentucky whipping of us. Not many folks outside of UK fans were watching. Heck, I had the game on as background noise. I wasn't sitting watching it closely myself.
