This Open Forum.......

Question

This OF is becoming what is wrong with college sports and heated rivalries. I first started reading this site because it had good info on AU recruiting and decent discussions amongst the posters. Now it is the BamaFan1137, AUMont, SP105, SanctionsStand, botswana 2011 argument platform. Then you throw in CrimsonBandit2, CrimsonTide69, and billywaynebama who it appears only come here to flame and stir up trouble, it is really even more sad. I took approximately a month off of posting while I dealt with my father's death just days before Christmas and took the time to think about what's really important in life. I realized that this ridiculous bickering is NOT what it's about. So, I've still read some of the stuff, but backed off of the posting as I saw that I was beginning to turn into the same type of fan I am complaining about. That is not what I want and is not how I want to represent myself, my family, or my alma mater. I'm guessing that's not what many of those whom I named are like in "real life" either. Maybe everyone should consider taking a step back and not taking this so seriously. That's just my two cents worth though. Feel free to flame on me now for voicing my opinion. I'm ok with that too. Congrats to Bama on the BCS championship, War Eagle, and God Bless!!!

I actually think I might take your lead here....at least for a while. Intelligent conversation on college football, or anything else for that matter, isn't all that common on this board anymore. There is a new guard of woman posing as college football fans quite literally crying about anything and everything instead. Bleeding, sandy vag in every single thread and frankly I'm embarrassed to be a part of it.

I, like you, quit posting here for a while. I even quit reading anything here for a while because of all the negativity and, quite frankly, stupidity. I sometimes wonder if some of these folks may need to see a counselor or psychiatrist. Some appear to be mentally unstable with their fixation on just one thing - flaming the other school. That cannot be healthy for them. Either that or they just cut and paste the same crap over and over, which may indicate a problem as well. It's like using their brain may strain them too much for them to handle.

Condolences on your father's death. Prayers for you and your family.

First of all sorry about your Father. I hope he lived a long happy life.

I encourage you not to use the broad brush when you paint the entire group of folks that post on here. If you would like to go back and search me you will find that I never curse or tell anyone they do not have a right to their opinion. Typically if I start a thread it is something that I really want an AU's opinion on. But most of the time what I write gets ignored and I get the typcial WTFC or you F..teabagger etc... The only way that will stop is if you are willing to call out our own. Are you willing?

All is good. I start every day with a clean slate and I give my friends and others the same. I found out a long time ago you have a better chance of living longer and being happier when you do that.

I hate to say this in defense of a bama fan but Botswana is actually the best of the posters on this site. He has never that I'm aware of been one to spill vitriol on Auburn. The others you mentioned....

The problem as I see it is that this being an Auburn board one would think that non Auburn fans would at least have the civility to allow us our own little repartee without being slammed at every post.

if we want to have our little daisy chain then we should be able to... this is for fans of AUBURN.
There are way too many of what I refer to as the Locust' on this board. They come in waves and literally drown out any type of conversation with anger and pettiness. Sad

I agree with your post and actually posted close to the same about 3 years ago. Needless to say it made no difference. I do check the board for recruiting and new news about AU often and find myself regularly skipping nonsense post and pathetic threads that sound like kids posting. I will not call out names but they know who they are and they surely can't actually be that kind of person in life.

As for the rest of your comments, I freely admit I like having fun going back and forth with you guys. Some folks around here get angry when myself and other Bama fans ask tough questions or counter misinformation. That's not flaming - its discussion and I'd expect (and see) the same from you guys. Your points on taking this stuff too seriously are spot on IMO. At the end of the day, this is just a game and even message board chatter is just recreational. I have plenty of AU fans in my family and we have fun with the rivalry too. That's all I really chalk up the chatter on this board to - rival fans horsing around and jawing with each other.

Honestly there are two types of posters that inhabit a football message board.

1.) The person that likes the back and forth and trash talking.

2.) The person who just wants the team news and juicy little recruiting tidbits.


Guess which one inhabits the open forums more than the other?..... cough cough 1 cough cough.

If you want to avoid the back and forth join the premium forum. If you just want to know the truth, these websites foster this type of environment in their open forums because they benefit by guys like AUav8r, who tire of the banter and back and forth, so they buy premium subscriptions.

I am like Sanctions Stand and just love the back and forth stuff. It's funny to me and some of the responses are pure comedy gold. It's also funny to me that this college football talk is like life or death serious to some on here like AUMont. I had a great laugh when I got him so mad the other day that he almost had a stroke. That line where he was so mad he just typed out a string of curse words that had no rhyme or reason was one of the funniest things I have ever seen on any board.

I am all for friendly and civilized banter. What goes on here is way past that level in my opinion. As a Navy pilot, we routinely gave each other a hard time. It's part of the culture. But my point is that there is a difference between "friendly banter" and just being a complete butt hole!! Some seem to not know the difference or they just don't care!
