Open letter to the Big X

Yes, I freely admit that I posted this on another thread. But I feel so strongly this I decided to start another thread based on this reply. I hope that more people will get a chance to read this and form some ideas.

I may be wrong about this, but when you have states which have jobs that are higher paying than the same jobs in TX, it almost always means that the cost of living is higher in that state compared to TX. In my case that's CA. It IS more expensive out here compared to TX. I mean out here gas is $3.51 a gallon. Ouch. Rent, mortgage payments, groceries and especially taxes are higher in CA. I mean we have recycling taxes out here every time you go to the grocery store, whether you buy soft drinks or not. Since I have to pay it, might as well start recycling. Point is, it's not just CA, but mid western states as well. Just my .02 worth.

Finally can we stop this talk about which conference has the better academic standing? So much of those ratings relate to research more than under graduate or graduate schools. Big X schools have more Nobel prize winners than Big XII schools? Please. That Nobel prize winner is NOT going to be teaching any class you're in. They have student assistants to do that for them so they won't have to. You're more likely to see those NPW people at McDonalds then you are at school. And that's true of any school no matter what college that NPW works at.

Finally a degree is something to be proud of no matter what school you graduated from. These insufferable Big X snobs don't seem to realize this. Does a degree from a more prestigious school measure ambition? No. NO University can do that. Does it mean you're smarter than someone who didn't graduate from that "prestigious" school? No. Earning a college degree is an intense 4, sometimes 5, even 6 year, 24/7 job. I especially respect the people who do it and hold down a part time job. I really respect the people who do this at the service academies who also graduate and have intense to say the least military training for 4 years. Oh, and BTW you Big X snobs, West Point, Annapolis, and the AFA, all have higher academic standards than ANY of your Big X schools. And that includes Northwestern. And it's the same thing all over again if you go to graduate school. In conclusion I respect and we all should respect anyone who had the ambition, the discipline to graduate from any college.

And since you Big X snobs come on here and ALWAYS digress the the original topic on these kind of threads let me just say one more thing. This is a sports board and you're only saying this because your conference did not do well in football. It's really that simple. With the exception of MI's win over ND, your conference did not do well in non conference play last year. Your conference champion, Wisconsin, lost the RB. You had no teams from your conference that finished in the top ten. You got a gift from the Sugar Bowl people to not just play in the SB, but got to play an ACC school to boot. And even then you still needed luck and an incompetent group of referees to win.

Finally, let me tell you about your athletes at your alleged "more prestigious" schools. They don't have to make the same grades that the student body has to. And that is true at any school in any conference. PERIOD. You can count on your two hands the universities in Div. 1 that require the athletes who have to be really excellent students to play. Stanford, the service academies, Duke, probably Northwestern. Maybe a couple more but that's it. If you can have athletes who will go to school and try to get a respectable major and can graduate that's a plus. It's even better if the athletes know the difference between right and wrong don't get into trouble and don't embarrass their university.

Well I'm through now and this time I really am. Oh and BTW Black & Tan, & HHS you're right you don't have a Northern Poverty Law Center. Instead, you have riots, rebellions, things where property gets damaged, innocent people get injured, and even worse people get killed. And it's usually started by your northern city police departments who do it by harassing African American males for no other reason than they're black.

Now what else do you Big X people want to talk about?

Did this REALLY require another thread? OBSESSED MUCH? Cmon son, Texas does what is best for Texas, the Big Ten does what it's best for the Big Ten. Both are making money hand over fist on BOTH the athletic and academic sides.

I think the vast majority agree that earning a degree is a great accomplishment no matter where you attended. Even the most annoying "troll" poster probably is a half decent person face to face but when they are given the protection of being anonymous behind a keyboard typical social dynamics get manipulated. Internet tough guys right? All of us are sports fans & hate to lose to an opponent but some people take it too personal and have to be better than you at something. That's when the personal, degree, location & other off topic fighting comes up. Me.....I read OB for insight and opinions from people with a similar interest, Longhorn football.

Agreed...now if we agree that the Big Tin exists in states that are paradise on earth, a downright Utopian society of well educated, white collar Master Race ubermenschen, will you all go away?

You're right I am obsessed. You Big X people came in here on OUR board and started this academic stuff. BTW I see you've changed YOUR reply from another thread. Instead of the just the Big X that's making "money hand over fist" the Big XII is too. That is not what you said the first time.

With all that being said I do respect MSU's tradition in hoops. They are up there with UNC, Duke, & Kansas among college hoops elite.

No, I actually liked and agred with your post. An education is a good thing...no matter where it's from. And I do think most people on most boards are good guys that you'd sit down and drink with.

Yeah, just wanted to make sure it was known that I am one of the good guys. I've been a reader here forever and decided to give the 7 day trial a shot a while back. Needless to say, I found most of the info there was typically released within a day or two somewhere else so I cancelled. Just wasn't for me.
The handle came from a strawberry milk bottle my wife was drinking at the moment. Thoughtfull, I know. smokin Thinkin I found my avatar too.

I'm sure the OP, being something of a newbie here, has no idea that someone could substitute "Texas" for "Big 10" in his rant, and pretty much nail Horn fans' attitude about every other school in the Big XII, most particularly OU. Am I wrong?

......says the douchebag spartan fan who spends an AWFUL lot of time roaming the board of a team that doesn;t even play his team. If you don;t like reading things like this, then don;t click on them. We do not need your commentary or approval for anything said/done or posted on a TEXAS fans site. You can cry and complain all you want back on spartyspunk.org or whatever site yall have.

The OP's post was right on about a majority of the big10 fanbase. If you already read it and expressed your opinion on YOUR site, then shut the f*ck up on ours and let other ppl talk about it. You didn't even try to cover ANYTHING he talked about... you just tried to make it out that the OP was whining or complaining about choices the Universities made... and if that is what you got out of it, then you obviously didnt read ANYTHING he wrote. In other words, you basically attempted to derail the thread to a degree....

I knwo you have posted here before and often... and I know that you can bring some good info to the table... but sometimes u need to be quiet.

So is this an indication Horn fans won't dump on OU academics after the recent post about graduation rates? Didn't think so.

I respect academics at OU. I had two second cousins who graduated there. One of them went on to get his Master's and Ph.D there as well. Any scholarship athlete who graduates from school impresses me. I respect them doing it at any school. Being a scholarship athlete and a student is like having two full time jobs. You won't hear me dissin OU academics.

LJ24 what are you referring to? I doubt that most of the horn posters really mean what they say about the rest of the Big XII. Most of it is trash talking in good fun. I don't like the Big X fans on here. My thread was my response to them. I'm sure most fans respect OU. I know I do. Academically as well as athletically. And I feel that way about the entire Big XII. And so far there has been no academic scandal at any Big XII school. Hope it stays that way. Finally I was aware that Bradford & Demarco Murray were good students who went on to graduate. I honestly think for the most part you are overreacting to what you think UT fans think of the Big XII and OU>.

Have a nice weekend

Overreacting? Seriously? Tell ya what, start a running count of how many times you read the phrase "glorified community college" (or something similar) here on OB, as relates to OU. You seriously underestimate your fellow Horn fan's inflated opinion of themselves.

Dude, you need to remember football is just a game. One more time. My thread was meant to be to respect a college diploma regardless of institution.

Big Ten schools have earned the right to be "snobs" about their conference, the people that have worked hard to develop the best always do. When factoring in athletics and academics its the best and not even close..

Put down the crack pipe and step away from the keyboard... you just reinforced everything that was said about big10 fans in this one asinine post.. Congrats. And you are right, it isn't even close - the big10 SUCKS.

The big10 is NOT the "best" anything... athletics/academics. I would be willing to bet that schools like Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Princeton, MIT would take exception to you claiming big10 has the "best" when it comes to academics. As far as being the "best" in athletics, you must be smoking crack.... again.

Lets look closer at this:

"best" in football - NOT the Big10 or any team in it. You FAIL here.
"best" in basketball - Not the Big10 or any team in it. You FAIL again...
"best" in baseball - pffft yeah right.... just take the FAIL here too.
"best" in women's sports - maybe, but I highly doubt it. You get a FAIL just for good measure.

Aside from that there isn't a lot of athletic relevance left across the board... and yeah I know yall play hockey, and polo and caber tossing... but that doesn't factor into this equation b/c not all schools actually field those types of teams....

So you fail on your retarded academic and athletic boasts, but watch - you will come back and double talk, justify, twist, piss & moan, cry, whine or otherwise try to find an angle to stand on here... But the only thing that will get you is yet another hefty helping of FAIL.

Now be a good little boy and go away.. I'm sure it is past your bedtime.

Yes, the B10 is the best when talking about athletics and academics together, its really not even close.

Toss in their network, their revenue, stability and prestige and its even easier to see

No question the tv revenues are superior

Stability of B10 is unmatched.

Their network speaks for itsel

Since you and your Big X are superior to us Big XII people than explain to us why you misspelled itsel. Th word is itself. I mean this is someone who is from a conference with a superior intellect, someone who is intellectually superior to the rest of us would know how to spell itself.

You got it backwards.
You Failed.

Yes, we have already established that there are a lot of low paying jobs heading to Texas.. A neighbor of ours was called into work last year, was told his $120K job was moving to DFW, if he wanted to move there the job was his at a salary of $78K... thats very common, companies moving down there because they can pay people much less.. so thats a win for you guys?

does an anecdote from a neighbor pass for statistics in your area? if not, then cough up the statistics.

employment, economic prospects, vitality, weather, friendly attitude, barbecue, beautiful women, natural resources

Yes, it's a win for us, but we're used to it.
We're Texas.

You're lying again--I've lived both places, no comparison. My sister lives in Illinois, can't wait to move here someday and get away from the cold and the taxes. Same with my brother in Wisconsin--too much snow and union scum. My other brother bought a ranch in Tyler six years ago--loves it. The neighbors on one side of my ranch are from Boston & Chicago--will never live in the north again. The folks on the other side are from Minnesota--same deal. You're delusional as well as being a compulsive liar.

I think everyone on this board has established tiger is full of it, DK

Not sure why he still feels the need to come on our board and try to get validation from us that the North and the Big 10 are the best thing since sliced bread.

We're not buying it, tiger and I think I can say for the most part, many of us really don't care.

What exactly am I lying about?

Whats amazing is that if Texas so great, why is their population density so much lower than Illinois? And all of this talk about higher taxes in Illinois, we currently rank as the 27th highest taxed state..

You are so stupid I am not even sure what to say.. You clowns always like to talk about how so many people have moved to Texas, how the population is so large.. Yet when I point out that the density is a LOT less than Illinois, you state the obvious that proves my point?
