Whitney Houston Dies at 48.....

Can't say I'm very surprised. Shameful waste of talent. Rest in peace...

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? Whitney Houston, who reigned as pop music's queen until her majestic voice and regal image were ravaged by drug use, has died. She was 48.

Publicist Kristen Foster said Saturday that the singer had died, but the cause and the location of her death were unclear.

At her peak in the 1980s and '90s, Houston the golden girl of the music industry and one of the world's best-selling artists.

Among her hits were "How Will I Know," "Saving All My Love for You" and "I Will Always Love You." She won multiple Grammys including album and record of the year.

Her success carried her beyond music to movies like "The Bodyguard."

But by the end of her career, drug use took its toll as her record sales plummeted and her voice became raspy and hoarse.

I remember some time back when she did the National Anthem just before the Super Bowl, and I don't think anyone has ever sung it anywhere near as well before - or since. Gosh she had a voice.

Now I also realize that was over 20 years ago!

I remember one Olympic year where they made a video of all the US Gold medal winners on the stand with her singing "One Moment in Time." Goosebumps for me.... And she outsang Dolly Parton on "I will always love you."

It is no longer sad when you have had a 100 chances to kick the drug addiction. I am with LJ on this. I could not care and it did not surprise me when I saw the news story on this. How many years has she been on the edge of death, how many times did she let bobby brown beat her ass ? and she has been on this addiction train how long ? Sorry, but what is the common factor with the last few music deaths ? Drugs. Now days they classify it as accidental prescription overdose. Nice way of covering it up.

Of course it was accidental! Who dies of an intentional drug overdose? You'd think after all these years she'd have had this drug thing down by now. Sheesh...

Joe, plenty of people die from intentional drug overdoses.

No kidding, medic. Joe, your question kind of kills any credibility you claim to have over here...were you being facetious?

Not sure why we have to rip her now, she obviously made terrible choices. She was talented and beautiful back in he day. Damn shame.

I agree I am not surprised this happened and she did let her great life get ruined by drugs and Brown. But the loss of human life is a tragic thing in every instance.

Joe adds two more solid posts of fine analysis and perception - lacking in any ignorance - to his resume.

At least there's something good coming out of such a tragic (at least in terms of a waste of talent and of a once smoking-hot woman) loss.

Seriously, her legacy for me was cemented almost exactly 21 years ago. I'm the type that wants to throw something at the TV whenever Christina Aguilera or some other idiot oversings the hell out of our National Anthem, and I think this is the best rendition I've ever seen.

Sure they do. If they are suicidal? Have there been any reports of this being the case? Was there a note left? You guys know what I meant...
