AD Phillips Rejects Clemson to Big 12

Question

Apparently, Don Phillips is killing all the speculation regarding Clemson possibly moving to the Big 12, even though that is what came out of the BOT meeting recently. He made some bold comments and it doesn't look it's going to happen. As for FSU, he didn't provide much color there.

Quick question about the Board of Trustee meeting on the 24th. Does anyone have a copy of the minutes?

I went to the Clemson BOT website and they have PDF files of all of their minutes of all of their meetings, and there was one for a meeting on January 16th, but none for the 24th. All meeting meetings have been approved as of February 2nd there.

I saw the minutes where this was discussed. BOT must have taken them down from the website. No hard deadline was set. A committee was to explore big 12 options and report back by late summer 2012. The focus of the committee was to see how much of the acc buyout the big 12 is willing to cover. In my opinion Clemson and their tag along buddy fsu are fishing for a better acc deal and/or an sec invite. I can not see any scenerio playing out that moves us to the big 12. This would not be a TDP decission to make. Nor would he be able to influence the outcome very much. He is the ad, which is a few rungs down the ladder. It would be like you being a store manager at Walmart, and going to the Walton family and presueding them who to buy goods from in China.

I believe they are looking at something and this most likely happened. But even on the website, it states all minutes must be published due to the Freedom of Information Act, and all minutes going back a few years are up there. So if they took them down, it is breaking the law.

while I hate the ACC, I don't really like the idea of going to the Big 12 and playing Texas and Oka every year or so or maybe every 4 years just isn't that big to me.

I think we have better rival games and history with UNC, VA, and other in all sports and it would be hard to build those kind of dislikes in the next 10 years.

I would love to go to the SEC but I doubt that will happen even though I feel Clemson and FSU would be a bigger draw to the SEC than a NCST or VT would be and those TV markets are not that big. I think those fans of NCST and VT would much rather keep their in-state and conf. rivals than go to the SEC and start over and get beat badly doing it.
