In case you guys hadn't heard, the SEC just released their plan for basketball scheduling in 2012 and the league will go to 18 conference games. So, that means every team in the league will play Missouri and aTm at least once.

Thanks Mike. I wonder how it's going to work. If you play everyone in your division twice that's 12 games then 7 from the other division would make 19.

They will disregard divisions. They will pick 5 schools for each team to play twice. The other 8 teams will be 1 game a year and alternate 4 home and 4 away.

There will be no argument in hoops about this since it is hoops and not football. you will not see Alabama and Auburn argue over competitive advantages as to which team plays Georgia. In football, they would howl.

This sets up the SEC to allow a Mizzou-Arkansas hoops rivalry to build quickly. LSU-Tex AM make a good pairing. The crown jewel is obviously Kentucky with Florida right behind them.

MA is one of the reasons for your team's success. He recruited these guys. Secondly, enjoy your success now because it won't be the same in the SEC next year. Check your roster, dude. It's full of seniors.

No shit hog.

Who's fault do you think it is that Anderson didn't recruit and left our roster horribly unbalanced?

We finally have a coach who can, and actually tries to recruit. We will be fine but absolutely no thanks to LMA.

Wild-bore, LMA did get us on the right track and did some nice things here. But the way Suitcase Mike, LMA wanted raise after raise, flirted around with other schools and finally left for Arky, a place which ran him and Nolan Richardson off... Left a bad taste in our mouths! Enjoy being blasted on the glass for the foreseeable future.

Faith in Haith is doing a great job. I thought we'd make the NCAA and had better with what we had coming back this year. Well, we are and are doing WAY better than I could have ever hoped to do. Doing all of this.... With the same players LMA had. Coincidence? I don't know..? Haith and company have hit the recruiting trail hard and it's paid off so far with some nice transfers already committed and on campus. Your boy LMA left the cupboard pretty bare beyond 2012.

Bad news for Arky is, I don't think LMA has anymore family relatives, friends or friends of friends that have kids that can ball. So, the way I look at it, you're screwed. Btw, we'll be just fine in the SEC in bball. Can't wait to beat the ever living shizz out of Arky in bball!

...but there is some thought that the 2012/13 year may be a one-off.

As far as rivalries, obviously Kentucky remains the big draw in the SEC partly because their fans travel so well. But I think Missouri will be excited to see how their real rivals develop. Obviously Arkansas will probably be the first one to develop, but I won't be surprised if Vanderbilt becomes big as well.

Honest question... Does anyone really dislike Vandy? Auburn/Bama hate each other. Everyone hates UT for some reason. No one likes Ole Ball Coach. The Mississippi schools probably only dislike each other. UGA/FL have disdane... UK/UT have the natural border rivalry... I'm just saying, seems like Vandy is just Nice Ole Vandy that no one really hates/dislikes..? Am I way off here? Please, fill me/us in. We're new to this conference.. :-) Oh and Btw, I definitively could start to "dislike" UK really quick while Cal Pal is their coach. Yep...

Correct. We have the exact same team as when MA was here. For some reason, we are #5 in the country now and didn't do sh** last year. Might be because half the team hated LMA and figured out he was stealing money. LMA is appreciated for cleaning up the mess after Quin left but he had wandering eyes after his first year. He was never really a Tiger. It led to him flirting with other schools and his extreme laziness and ineptitude on the recruiting trail. He will probably try really hard for you guys so you have that.

Man, you guys are easy to bait.

Remember, now that you're going to the SEC, football is number one unless you're a Kentucky fan.

At least MA saved your bb program from the disgraceful days of his predecessor.

As long as the Hogs remain better in football like the past two seasons, you can have your bb wins against us.

Pretty funny stuff about MA's family members.

At Mizzou, we care about both football and basketball. Why dont you go back to trolling hogwash.com.....

Why don't you get a sense of humor? BTW, AR bb tradition far exceeds MU's.

Arky hasn't cared about basketball since Corey Beck has syphilis. So, that's about 1994..

First, the SEC no longer has divisions in basketball. So, technically, there won't be a rationale for continuing to play seasonal home-and-away basketball games against the members of your football division. That leads me to my question, below.

Second, yes, Tennessee hates Vanderbilt. It's the typical intrastate public versus private thing. UT fans will bark about football domination, but VU has absolutely buried UT in baseball since Corbin came to Vanderbilt. In basketball the series has been relatively even.

Kentucky likewise does not like Vanderbilt, especially in basketball, because VU has beaten UK in Rupp twice recently. That used to never happen. There are also a lot of UK fans in Nashville, and since VU is the closest school by proximity to Lexington that likewise breeds contempt.

Finally, a question. If Missouri fans picked their alleged five permanent home-and-away partners for basketball, which would you prefer?

Same exact team... except its second-best player is out for the season and another key contributor graduated.

Well, I'd have to go with Arky number one, UK, UT, Vandy and... Hmm FL.. Outside of those schools, does anyone else in the SEC care about roundball?

...but would you really want to have to play ALL 5 twice? I would take UF off of the list and add in someone like LSU to play the role Colorado used to play for us in the Big 8/XII (i.e. scheduled conference win at home and strong chance of a win on the road). Other than that I like your list. They are all close and offer the potential for some good games.

It should be interesting to see how we do against LMA next year. We should have a more balanced team and a deeper team than this year, but we give up a lot of experience. Even with the transfers we have a group of guys who haven't played together in a NCAA basketball game.

We'll have Phil Pressey, Mike Dixon, Laurence Bowers, Earnest Ross, Keion Bell and Jabari Brown (for conference play). I'll take those guys plus a couple of our incoming recruits against the Hogs anyday.

Fox Sports says it best hog boy: "Mizzou is good. Damn good. Way better than it ever was under Mike Anderson, who bolted for Arkansas this offseason."

I think it's very unlikely that Missouri gets Florida as a permanent home-and-home opponent. There are too many other SEC schools that have history with Florida.

Arkansas and aTm are obvious. Then you probably get Vanderbilt, Kentucky and perhaps South Carolina or LSU.

We have only been playing A&M since '97. I would prefer picking a cluster of teams that are close UK, Vandy, AR-kansas, UT and one of Ole Miss, MSU, LSU would be fine. (Baton Rouge is close enough to New Orleans that I could find an excuse to go to an away BBall game. There are no destinations like that in Broken XII land.

Yeah, but I don't think that's gonna happen. I think you'll get aTm, in part because Missouri's administration wants to keep as much of a presence in Texas as possible.

There are two ways the SEC can do this:

1. They can in effect keep the divisions for scheduling, but ignore them for standings. That's what they did for 2011-12. That may well be what they do. In that case, Missouri would probably play aTm and four members of the current SEC East home and away every year. The problem with this is that one current SEC East member is going to lose their annual series with Kentucky.

2. Or, they can shuffle the deck and do it freestyle. That would enable the league to both keep old rivalries, reduce travel as much as possible, and maximize TV scheduling. For example, they could pit hated football rivals Tennessee and Alabama against each other twice a year instead of once. That's the theory. But the actual implementation I fear will be a lot like picking the Field of 65, because of the domino effect that even one such change brings about. If each SEC school has five permanent home and away opponents, then there's no way to get to 18 unless you remove one of the current home and away opponents from each of the current SEC members.

For Mizzou and aTm, this is meaningless because neither of you have emotional ties to any of the SEC schools. But when you start taking a home game with Kentucky away from South Carolina, that's a decision that hits that school in the pocket book big time.

SEC needs to focus on getting the schools that care about hoops to have home and homes. To me that is Mizzou, UK, Vandy, Tenn, Florida and Arkansas.

This whole thing is about TV packaging so why wouldn't the SEC want to promote its best hoops match-ups, as much as possible?
