Question from a WVU fan

0 like 0 dislike
There has been talk on the message boards of some schools that dislike WVU, that Texas and Oklahoma views WVU as a bottom dweller in the B12 in football. I just wanted to know where you think WVU stacks up in the B12? I am not posting this to debate or argue. I am just curious to your opinions of WVU in football.

What message boards? Sure hasn't been here

I think most on this board are ecstatic WVU is joining the Big 12

and have nothing but respect for your football program.

A helluva a lot more than aggie or mizzou

Competitive. WV has a TxTech and Ok St'ish feel. You probably should compete for the conference title every few years. You seem to win some big games as a spoiler but then lose some games you should not. Historically better than KSU, KU, ISU and Baylor. Best of luck.

As a fellow WVU fan, I haven't read on any message board about Texas or Oklahoma disliking us. Sure, there are your common jokes you hear but that's to be expected in good humor. If you go to a Marshall or Pitt board, you may see negative remarks about WVU but that's it.

That's a good description. Tech and Ok State have become a tough road game at night. Much like I think WVU will be.

Also I think of WVU as a football school. Not like aTm where they constantly puff their chest regardless of results but more of a working mans attitude of produce or shut up. Never had any real interaction with WVU so it is all perception for me.

So far so good.

I think most Texas (and OU...maybe!) fans are excited that WVA is coming onboard. Surely you must understand that there will be serious smack, so get over it right now. My opinion of WVA football is of a team that plays with a lot of speedy offensive players, and average defense, but overall is better than most of the teams of their region. I hope that helps. Oh, and by the way, Texas doesn't give rat's ass what anyone thinks about us--we're Texas.

It's WVU, not WVA. What are you at the post office in 1987 trying to mail a letter?

Thanks for the replies guys. I have the utmost respect for Texas and Oklahoma programs and the B12 conference all together. You all seem not to have the "we are better than the inbred, toothless, uneducated, hillbillies" thought process of most teams when WVU is brought up. It seems that the B12 lets the on the field/court performances do the talking. I respect that. I think WVU is a great fit for the B12 and the fans that represent it. I am really excited about WVU joining the B12 and I hope to be able to visit each school for a game in each sport. Good luck and I can't wait until the B12 takes over the SEC in football prestige.

Talk is cheap and I prefer to let the teams settle it on the field on Oct 6 (and in the years ahead). But based on recent WVU successes, it seems like you will be a contender and a dangerous opponent that should not be underestimated. Hopefully the Horns can handle the test, but may the best team win!

Take what is said on the messageboards with a grain of salt, there are a lot of loud mouthed poseurs that try to stir up trouble.

Oh, we have the 'we are better then the inbred hillbilly' thought. It's just aimed at A&M, not you. A reputation like that has to be earned through actions, not assigned by stereotype, else it cheapens our ridicule of those who truly deserve it.

WVU is a huge upgrade over A&M & TCU. I'm thrilled you guys are in the Big12.

I agree with the Ttech & OSU comparison. Usually in the mix of things and can pull off a big time season when things line up right. Basically, a damn good football program that is an exciting opponent most years.

The way the B12 looks right now, WVU should step in next year as a contender for the conf crown. Obviously OU is the favorite due to landry but as we all know too well, any given Saturday.... I think TCU will struggle a little at first but improve greatly as their recruiting gets better. Hell, for all I know they could win it as well.
