For the Vols picked to finish 11th in the SEC, we are just glad our players are managing the poor coaching we have.

Good thing we have all of this talent and are able to overcome the deficiencies of our in-over-his-head coach. cool

He might have saved his job if he hadn't gone 19-15 overall, 8-8 in the SEC and blown out by 30 in the NCAA. All this talent was just sitting on the bench at his disposal last year doing nuttin.

last year. I expected more from Tatum this year because he averaged 25 min last year. I expected double figure average, its the same I'd expect from myself. The big men played little and that's perplexing to me. You have a guy you depend on most(Williams) averaging 7 ppg. Play Maymon and Hall a little more and who knows what you get from it. In retrospect, Maymon is obviously better than Williams.......so......where was he last year? Unbelievable. But hey! All you Pearl folks be sure to correct me on this.

The problem with Hall last season is he wasn't yet mature enough to stay on the floor because he had not learned to play with himself defensively. He literally averaged a foul per minute, so could never stay on the floor long enough to get quality playing time. Not sure why Maymon didn't get more time though.

But yes, this year's team had little playing experience carry over from last season, other than Tatum, and unfortunately he didn't bring a consistent offensive history with him (and I'm not knocking Cam, because I like the kid and believe he gives his all for UT; it's just an unfortunate truth that he is a very streaky shooter, but does bring it defensively on the floor). But this was a team with little PT history, and zero history playing together as a group. And while there is some individual talent on the team, here and there, it's not an overly talented team, so it quite naturally would take some time for a coach to mold them into a unit that plays as a team on the floor. And fortunately, we have a coach that has proved capable of getting the best out of his players. Some fans apparently have trouble understanding that.

Agree, think coach Martin is doing a great job getting the most from them and developing them. Teaching them to play D the right way to, not just full press or something like that but pretty good all around D.
